Nope. I'm not familiar with any version of Eternal Doom for Doom1.
Some clarification:
Q48. Which Doom E1 replacement PWAD from the 90s starts with a demo of a secret level that involves infighting between a Cyberdemon and a bunch of Barons?

Lol I had a brainfart. I thought of eternal doom because it has episodes as well.
I'll say Fava beans because it's the first 90s e1 episode replacement I can think of.

Yeah, not that either. OK, since I have to wrap it up and my work week starts tomorrow, consider this a freebie for folks who are frequently online - the name of the WAD has been mentioned twice in this thread. Look it up.

Yes, it is. It's not a particularly prominent WAD, but for its time I think it can be considered good. I believe it is both the first custom PWAD I've played, and the first time I saw deliberate infighting (DEMO1 showing E1M9), so I was impressed. And with this we can conclude the November season of the Doomer Boards Quiz Game. Final Scoreboard SilverMiner - 12 points Nockson - 10 points Xeep-Eep - 9 points switchblade - 5 points matador - 4 points rancidsam - 2 points JadingTsunami - 2 points lunchlunch - 1 point thundercunt - 1 point noisomedead - 1 point good-old - 1 point
Thank you all for playing, I hope it was fun. I definitely enjoyed coming up with the questions, many of which I had to think up during the quiz. The average pace of answers was quite quick, which surprised me. Since we have no reputation points or similar mechanisms (Thank God), there are no prizes I can distribute. So, does anyone want to take over hosting the quiz? I propose that the winner - SilverMiner gets first pick, with Nockson getting second, and xeepeep third. In case no one is interested, but there is general interest in keeping the game, I may run another one, but I will need a break of at least 1-2 weeks.

But I don't consider myself erudite enough to host a quiz. Doom has always been a childhood game for me, but I didn’t really go into details, I just made a few unreleased maps around ten years ago. I only recently began to dig deeper when I started editing DoomWiki. So I could prepare some questions, but not lead.

OK, since no one has picked this up in a week, and since I have something lined up to start on Christmas day, but not before, I have decided to do an impromptu "blitz" session, until the end of December 24th.
To make things more interesting I've updated the rules in the first post a bit. Mostly with the goal of speeding things up and preventing the game from being stuck. The summary of the changes: (1) Unanswered questions will now be replaced after at least 24 hours and at most 48 hours. (2) You may guess again after I've declared your previous answer incorrect, but not before (to avoid flooding every possible answer).
Additionally, I am relaxing the no-edit rule so that if you edit your post before anyone else replied (i.e., your post is still last at the time of the edit), then it will not disqualify you. There was at least one case last time where it would have made a difference, and in hindsight, it seems OK to allow that, I just felt uncomfortable changing the rules in-flight.
The scoreboard is restarted, and the first question will be posted shortly.

Quick question about rules that I didn't quite get the first time - are playing the WAD or watching it in editor counts as looking up?

Quick question about rules that I didn't quite get the first time - are playing the WAD or watching it in editor counts as looking up? Well, yes, it kinda does... Especially in something as trivial as this. Playing may be a gray area in some cases, but Doom2 MAP01... No fully correct answers so far, BTW.

I'll pass this one then, I never ever played Doom deathmatch (what a shame).

So... no complete answers so far, but a couple of partial ones. Hint: at least one correct weapon has not been mentioned so far. Anyone may re-answer. I thought so too, but it never hurts to ask. I'll pass this one then, I never ever played Doom deathmatch (what a shame). Yes, I admit it was a great deal of fun back in the day. We deathmatched at my school when we realized that the local Win98 network includes IPX support which made DOOM networking work "just like that". Needless to say, the map we played the most was MAP01. Anyhow, you may still be able to deduce the correct answer from the guesses and the hints.

Rocket launcher and the BFG
|
|
|
Post by dr_st on Dec 14, 2023 1:03:01 GMT -5
Finally somebody mentioned the BFG. Unfortunately, no one got 3 out of 3. The answer is: Super Shotgun, Rocket Launcher and BFG. All three appear on the first ledge to the left of the starting point. There is another BFG in the first room, visible from P1 start. Another Super Shotgun is in the north room with the 4 Zombiemen. The original Rocket Launcher from the secret room is also there. There is only 1 chainsaw and shotgun (original locations). A chaingun is visible in the corridor from the starting point. A plasma rifle is added on the AC unit (or whatever that is) which triggers the door to open outside. I guess this kind of question would be easier to answer 20 years ago when everyone still deathmatched on the original levels. Trying a different one now... Q1a. The PlayStation ports of the Doom games included a subset of levels from the original PC releases, but rearranged. For each port - list the releases it drew levels from.

Replacing once again. Q1b. According to John Romero - which was the last level (chronologically) he created for the original release of Doom (not Ultimate Doom), and why was it finished last?
