Welcome to the Doomer Boards Quiz Game!
The game is a friendly competition, where you test your knowledge about everything Doom. Think you know it all? Most? Some? Like to learn or impress others with your knowledge of trivia about your favorite game series? This is the topic for you!
Basic flow of the game:
During any session of the quiz, there is one quizmaster. The quizmaster asks questions, which may be answered by any registered user of the forum. Each correct answer wins a point. Incorrect answers do not cost points. One question is active at a time. The point will go to the first player who posted the correct answer. The quizmaster will acknowledge it, and ask the next question. The quizmaster will keep a score tally of the participants.
Rules for the quizmaster:

Rules for the quizmaster:
- Anything related to the Doom series and franchise can be used as material for the questions. This includes things like the base games, official / developer-authorized expansions and ports, lore, music, official cinematic productions, merchandise, facts about the development, etc. Almost anything is fair game, if there is a connection to Doom.
- Because of the close relation to the Doom engine, and the resulting mix of the communities – the original Heretic, Hexen and Strife – are also considered valid source material.
- Unofficial / fan-made content (WADs, mods, comics, etc.) is allowed, however, it should be significant. With so much content out there, it is difficult to define significance. Widely used source ports and seminal mods / level sets are probably OK. The one map that your friend uploaded to /idgames in 1997, and has an average rating of 1.1 stars from three reviewers – probably is not. Exercise good judgment, and ask yourself – how likely is it that the average Doomer will know the answer?
- Questions should be about provable facts – verifiable by consulting the material (game, movie) directly, dissecting the data, or locating a credible source of information online. The point of the game is to test the knowledge of participants, so no word games or fantasy stuff like “what do you think a Mancubus eats for dinner?”
- Questions should be as clear and as unambiguous as possible. It is okay to ask questions that have more than one valid answer. The quizmaster should accept any valid answer, even if it is not the answer they had in mind (for instance, if the question was ambiguous).
- In case of a partially correct, almost correct, or ambiguous answer, the quizmaster should exercise discretion. They may choose to accept the answer, ask for amendment/clarifications, wait for a better answer to be given, or withdraw the question. Partial score is not an option.
Rules for participants:
- To keep the game fair and interesting – answers should not be looked up. This is a contest in knowledge, not in web search skill. Since this rule is nigh impossible to enforce, the success of the game relies on the honesty and fair play of the participants.
- One answer per question, per user, unless otherwise instructed by the quizmaster.
- Posts that have been edited will generally not be accepted as answers, even if they are correct. The only exception to this is if your post is the last one, and you edit it before another member has made a post. In this case, your latest edit may be accepted, if it is correct. Please do not abuse this exception, as if someone else posts an answer too close to yours, it may lead to awkwardness or force the withdrawal of the question.
- If the question is unclear, you may ask the quizmaster for clarifications, but do not expect the quizmaster to give the answer away.
- If you believe the quizmaster is in error (rejected a correct answer, accepted a wrong answer, violated a rule or did not notice a violation, failed to update the score sheet, etc.) – feel free to point it out. Please refrain from otherwise criticizing the quizmaster or their choice of questions, unless something is really out of line.
- It is allowed and encouraged to discuss some of the earlier questions and answers, but otherwise please stay on topic.
- Please be courteous to others.
Additional rules for the current session:
The rules below can and should be adjusted according to the progress of the game, the overall activity level of the forum, or for any other reason, if so decided by the community.
- To avoid players winning on activity alone, a participant who answered 3 questions correctly in a row, must skip the next question. The quizmaster should point out to players whenever they must skip.
- If a quizmaster wishes to step down, or becomes inactive for more than 7 days with no prior notice, the community, with the approval of the administrator, may appoint a different quizmaster.
- dr_st is the current quizmaster.
- The current session has no target score. It will run until the end of Christmas Eve, 24-Dec-2023, at which point a decision will be made by the community (continue, start a new session with a different quizmaster, terminate).
- Because this is a short session, in order to speed things up, a couple of ad-hoc rules will be adopted:
- A question that has not been answered correctly will be withdrawn after 24-48 hours, and a different one will be asked.
- If any number of users posted an answer, and the quizmaster responds that none are correct, then anyone may attempt to re-answer. Each user is still allowed at most one guess before the quizmaster responds. This is done to encourage active players, while preventing someone from spamming every possible answer.
