I would also like to add Final NeoDoom as another good example of Daniel's wads that was ignored in the 2015 awards even though it should have won one.  As the author has stated sometime ago and in one of his secrets in Omni Doom that was released a year ago, it was because of his past behavior that DW didn't seem to let go.

Forgot about the doom awards we were partnered with. I imagine they got at least a little flack for that. 40 said he would probably post a thread when it was announced but looks like that won't pan out.

Assumed as much. Not a good sign that the twitter post had like two shares and one response but I don't participate in the "Doom community" at large as most activity seams to be on discord, which I have no interest in.

Like how a 1993 game about a muscle-bound badass killing machine of a man single-handedly slaughtering most of Hell's population and saving humanity, ended up being the catalyst for the creation of the single largest collection of soy-boy, ultra-progressive, perpetually salty, and constantly offended wackjobs to ever walk the face of Earth (that's Doomworld, in case anyone wasn't following). Doomworld has proven, time and time again, that it encourages terrible behavior, unfair bias, and lying about others to sway opinion in the direction that it wishes opinions to be swayed. There are no "nazi punks" on this forum. Calling someone you disagree with a nazi or bigot or whatever is the laziest possible way to win an argument, and the only people who do it are cowards who have no interest in getting to the truth and building bridges that could lead to meaningful collaboration. They are miserable, sour people who take pleasure in drama, elitist exclusion, and pedantic one-upmanship.

I don't even think about Doomworld or the Cacowards anymore. It's not even on my radar. I had forgotten about it until this thread to be honest. And I will now go back to forgetting about it, because a forum so rife with immature, thin-skinned, condescending, bitter losers isn't worth my time or attention.

I've said all this to say: Don't waste energy on people or institutions that aren't worth your energy. Instead, build yourself and those you value up. Living well is the best revenge.

Hi. I was part of the modding team for Ashes 2063.

I'm not part of the project anymore but I still fondly remember all the playtesting and being a part of a Cacoward-winning mod. We had fun and we were glad other people enjoyed playing it.

Seeing what the Cacowards have become makes me sad and I am baffled that Scuba Steve still wants to champion the ZDoom/Doomworld staff after the Marisa the Magician incident. It's like, does he not have a life outside of Doom and social media slacktivism?

On paper, I agree with him on a lot of things. In practice, the Doomworld/ZDoom staff kept screwing up and I got tired of dealing with the fallout. I didn't want to die on that soiled hill.

Too many people have forgotten the difference between actually holding morals and being morally outraged. They are NOT the same thing.

Also bizarre that people wanted to leap on John Carmack when he and Romero were willing to bury the hatchet and stream together. Like, why can't you act more like your supposed idol? Absolutely insane.

I remember once upon a time I was excited to realize GZDoom could be used to make standalone games. Now I think people would be better off using Godot, despite its shortcomings.

Well... I can say that these awards is kinda suspicious in the terms of complexity.

There is a mod from Nomakh (that one called "Hell From Earth"), that represents an enemy pack full of bastards.
You can encounter goons, bandits, gang members, neo-Nazis (literally), Mexican cartel gangsters, Middle East terrorists, corrupted police & PMC units and etc.
But there is zero mentions of that, even when Nomakh himself has made that mod as his last resort in a way to vent out his frustration with some members of the modern society of our world where we live in.
Only common phrases like "These enemies is so cool!" and "They are so interesting to battle against!"
Okay. Authors of these "Doom Awards" may just avoided a really spicy (according to modern internet standards) topic.

Then we have a honorable mention of the "Doomer Boards Project №59: Zeppelin Armada".
And again, there is just common praise with things like "This is the good example of the modern mapping!" and "You definitely should play this WAD by yourself!"
No any mentions of dialogues, quests, currency and shops that were made not only w/o usage of ACS scripting, but even w/o any Boom's conveyors.
Pure miracle made on Limit Removing and this part of that gargantuan work was just forgotten, for some reason.
I saw many people who remembered this map pack not only for its good style, but for that technical part itself.
