This morning my account got suspended until the 22nd. Is this a common thing over at Doomworld? The only message I got with it was "raise the quality of your posts". I'm not sure what exactly I'm supposed to do to make that happen. I usually make sure my posts contribute something, and that my posts are grammatically correct and readable. I called someone out for making a stupid thread, but so did a lot of other people. I'm aware I can be kind of harsh sometimes, but I try to reserve the harshness for when it is called for. I think I've shown more kindness than anger or negativity.
It just seems like everything I do gets me a warning. My first warning came when I told a user that his username was funny. Then I got a warning for posting an NSFW story in EE, it was gross but contained no racism or bigotry or anything like that. I can understand that warning, though. Then I got another warning for posting a Doom rap that I found on Reddit. Then I got another warning, then another, now this.
I just don't really understand. I don't feel like I've been a toxic person, and I always try to help people and contribute whenever I can.
So if anyone from DW is reading this, do you have any tips? I don't have any issue with the moderators at DW, and I apologize if I have caused any problems. I have around 750 posts, and I try to post everyday. The only bad habit I have is calling out users who make stupid posts, but I'm not the only one who does that, and I don't cuss them out or do anything extreme. I don't feel like I'm an unreasonable member.
If you are familiar with my posts on DW, can you tell me what you think of me? Do I come across as a bad person? I don't understand why I seem to have a target painted on my head.
Yesterday I found out that Doomworld has a reputation leaderboard, and it made me feel good to see myself in second place between Doomkid and seed. It made me feel good, not because it strokes my ego, but because those two members are good people and I felt like I was doing a good job as a member for my name to be up there with them. I felt like I was contributing something, even if I don't make maps or anything. But now I feel like I'm not a good member, and even though Doomworld is just a website about Doom, I enjoy talking to the people there, it gives me a place to decompress when I'm not feeling good.
So I apologize to the moderators and any of the users I've upset. I'm sorry if I come across as mean-spirited. I try to be a good person and a good member. I don't want to be banned from the forum.

you pussy, don't apologize, embrace the dark side I basically agree with thundercunt here. Why remain loyal to a site that punishes you for behavior that isn't problematic or wrong. Doomworld isn't a place for people who aren't part of the "cool" clique. The members of said clique basically view those outside of it as lesser beings, and take pleasure in watching them squirm and writhe to be accepted by the elites. Why take part in that circus if you don't have to? |

So although I don't agree with the warnings/suspensions, I'd perfer to still be able to post there. I rarely have problems with the users themselves. I don't even have a problem with the mods, I just don't really understand what I did to deserve their ire. |

I once got suspended for 24 hours for saying the acronym for Doom 2 : Hell On Earth sounds like porn.
Try to not get close to this example, play it safe and don't challenge anybody, then you won't get banned, if you find yourself getting a little f/risky with your DoomWorld post, don't post it.
You could also email the DW mods to get a direct response.

I just have a feeling that if I message the mods they're just going to get pissed. Any idea which mod I should talk to? From my experience Esselfortium seems to respond without getting pissed. Stay away from Linguica, he will block you and not respond. |

The only message I got with it was "raise the quality of your posts". Ouch, that's a bad one. The best warnings are explicit ones, usually tied to a single post: they mean that there is one specific thing you did wrong, and as long as you don't repeat your mistake you're good. But when the mods start talking about your posting as a whole, it might be a sign that you've been on the radar for a while and they don't like you. |

Doomworld doesn't know what they want. That message "raise the quality of your posts" is a particularly cryptic one, not unlike what I've seen before. They're picking on you. They don't expect you to raise the quality of your posts. They're hoping you will leave.
I think you should do what I wish I had done. Get the contact info of all your friends on doomworld. Friend request them on facebook, get their twitter handles, usercodes for discord maybe even email addresses. I had several ongoing projects that were taking place over doomworld private messages at the time I was banned. I was also offering playtesting support for projects, writing tutorials and had a lot of messages with useful notes and content. Some of these messages are with members who have also been banned from doomworld and I don't know any other way to reach them. Some of these messages are with friends that have since passed away. I wish I had backed those up. They're gone forever.
Doomworld doesn't care about your relationships with Doom and it's members. They will ban you when they feel like it, and you'll be alienated from the doom community and have to post on some smaller sattelite forum to talk to other doom fans instead.
I've been gaslit a bunch of times about this. Been told that I'm cynical and paranoid and that doomworld is actually one of the nicest communities there is and if I'm having a problem with it then maybe IM the problem. If that was true the doom community wouldn't need to be fractured into facebook groups, discord, reddit, /vr/, and this forum wouldn't need to exist.
Like you, many people, myself included, use this forum to talk about the weird shit that's going on on dw but deep down many of us probably really miss it. But it's not going to get better.

I've never done anything horrible, I'm sarcastic sometimes but I don't take it to an extreme and it sucks because there are some genuinely great people on Doomworld. I'll get all of my friends' contact info in case I get banned. I'm grateful to 40oz for having this forum. I don't want to get into anything personal, but it seems that you were banned for having a morbid sense of humor, and I don't understand how that was deserving of a ban. I can tell just by your posts here that you're a good person. I really appreciate your transparency when it comes to running this place. There are some really weird folks here, but that's okay, I'll adapt to this forum's atmosphere. This seems like a good place to decompress. Even if I survive the trials of Doomworld, I'll still try to be active here too. The DBP wads are excellent. Thank you all for the advice and honesty. And I'm very sorry that you lost some of your friends, I can't imagine what it must feel like not being able to see their messages. |

Also out of all the admins I'd recommend you dm Ichor or Mordeth, maybe essel. They're the most likely to actually respond to you

There are plenty of "normal dudes" that post a hell of a lot more than I do. Some members have close to ten thousand posts and have only been members for a couple years. Do the math, it's not an extreme amount of posts every day. Who cares how much someone posts? As long as their posts contribute something, what does it matter? |

Nah fuck that. Thats a stupid implied rule. Doomworld members (and here) can use the ignore feature to hide posts from members they feel post too much about stuff they don't want to read. The moderators shouldn't be arbitrarily dictating the quality of the community with threats of banning. These are real people, and Doom is a big niche interest
I like to see people be their authentic self.
