Yeah! I have more gimmicky proof-of-concept stuff I wanna test out before possibly putting them in a more serious map :y That and taking a stroll through MARSWAR gave me confidence that I could make a nice speedmap that could be on par with what Memfis did

That's funny because I was very much thinking of Marswar when making that map...

FDAS complevel -1 prboom-plusThese were maps. I like maps. Thanks for the maps. Map01 - Xeep's map had a lot choke points with monster-clog, but i'm okay the general style. Map02 - J-ilya's map had a hectic start that I liked. this might actually be my favorite map in the set in terms of monster gameplay. Map03 - Walter's map was okayish. I had to snipe-grind the archvile. Map04 - UltraMuffinStrategery's map was janky and unpolished, but i appreciate seeing attempts at gimmicks. The ending room didn't seem consistent unless i'm not seeing something right, everything else seemed fair. Map05 (no demo) - Phobus's map was basic and clean, but with zdoom stuff. Map32 - Memfis's map was basic and clean. Not the most interesting memfis map, but still mappy enough. I liked the pretty music Overall, I can't call any of these great maps. But I always like playing these sessions; a small sample of short maps across a variety of styles is a good way to whet my doom appetite.

Fuck those cunts. Upload to idgames and be done with it, unless you want to look for trouble of course.

Noticed a missing texture on Phobus's map at the start

Yeah, I'm a little afraid that if we make a Doomworld topic it might turn into another shitfest. But then again... If that happens, it will totally be Doomworld users' fault and not ours, so maybe it's worth a shot? I would like to see the relationship between Doomworld and Doomer Boards improve. I don't want this place to be seen as anti-Doomworld or whatever. Maybe we need that kind of "foreign exchange" once in a while if we want to strengthen our bonds. There always will be people hating things purely out of political reasons, but if we do more cool stuff like WAD releases, the general perception might change somewhat.

I think that the map I made on this session is much better than everyone else's, and I feel like it would be a shame to waste it here when I can use it in a more high quality community project I'm managing on the Russian forum that really needs some additional maps right now. Now, this sounds very cocky and makes me look even worse, but I want you to know my honest feelings. Speedmapping sessions actually often disappoint me a lot because I struggle on them for hours, finally end up with something great, get excited about seeing the other maps, but then realize that most of them are weak compared to mine. So I'm like "Eh, I was trying so hard, but seems like most people approached this rather lazily. And yet everyone is praising their work anyway! What was the point of me working my ass off then?". Ok, now you're really going to hate me.

Haha never dude. You have your reasons and they’re cool. I personally just don’t see the problem in having the same map in more than one project. Chances are some might play one and not other mapset so your wonderful map has more of a shot of getting played.

Generally speaking Memfis, you're one of the better mappers in most community projects I've seen your work in. Whether this is due to your skills in making or your attitude to what you're making, it is a fact. Likewise, most of us aren't taking these as anything of than lighthearted projects. Things get done to a lower standard. I try to hold myself above jokes, but my quality isn't that good in these time restrictions.
Basically, I agree with you and respect your reasoning and thinking.
I'd not bother announcing a throwaway project like this on Doomworld. A bigger, more serious one would be worth sharing, though.

I finally found some time to try it out yesterday, and I'm impressed of what you accomplished in such a short space of time. Too bad that not everyone could participate.
I'll probably attend the next one, since I have some ideas for a map which might work - or not.

Yeah feel free to host it Cupcake. Anyway, I'm uploading this thing to /idgames... also I've fixed the missing texture on MAP05. Silly SLADE 3 doesn't seem to count flats used as wall textures when removing unused stuff...
Been a while since I uploaded anything to /idgames, heh.

Didn't feel to record demos, so here I have only my snarky comments. I'll see if I can make something for the next time though I don't know, I'm not really a speedmapper guy.
MAP01: Good music, it made the level more enjoyable. Initially I didn't like the lack of the SSG vs mid-tier enemies, and the the cramped passages plus that moments where you are suddenly put face to face with monsters (the drop in the pit, and then rising to the baron/mancubus floor) were awkward. I liked the floating way to the exit. MAP02: Poor music choice. This is somehow redeemed by the cacos battle, plus some points for putting a invuln. orb which is fun always fun to use. The jump on the pac-man platforms is awkward, initally I thought it wasn't possible. It would have been better if the secret BFG ws available immediately, and have more cacos to kill, a better final rather than having that unispired cyberdemon battle. MAP03: When I hear this kind of midi music I instinctively press F10 and y. It's a jam of rooms with different textures and a very basic monster placement. Though I liked the arch-vile and the exit which makes you go back with some opened monster closets before it's accessible. MAP04: Cool look. The gameplay it's based on gimmicks which were rather nice. The baron "maze" is very tricky: lost souls can block you, and the arch-viles can revive some barons easily. MAP05: The overall look is well done, and the gameplay is simple and straightforward. Not so much to say but I think it's allright overall. MAP32: Best map of the session but probably it isn't really fair to compare it with the other works. It's the only one which feels like a proper map and I can see why Memfis wants to use it somewhere else. The overall look is a bit too rough, but the ideas are there. THe outside and the cave was a nice diversion from the usual interpretation of the theme. Idk why but at the YK I was thinking it was a fitting place for an arch-vile to appear.

Feedback : MAP01 by @xeep-eep : Lame map, lots of awkward walls to walk by, all the fights are tedious, challenge-less camp-fests (something more than a shotgun would make it better with better setups), plus a very confusing non-rewarding ending with a dickish chaingunner plopped inside, holes the player has to fall inside off are filled with monsters sometimes which is I consider fake difficulty, too easy of a map anyways, looks rather unfinished as well with very bland architecture. 1/5
MAP02 by me : I agree, the lily pad section needs a little tweak to help the player get to exit easier, can I fix it? That stuck caco is on purpose. x/5
MAP03 by Walter : Irritating as hell MIDI (I literally changed it), there's an unreachable secret tagged sector within the secret armor room, a completely unnecessary backwards trek to the blue key, boring AV placement (camping AVs through windows with chaingun and shotgun isn't fun, could have a more varied weaponry. Very cool fleshy outdoors, boring pain elemental placement. 2/5
MAP04 by supercupcaketactics : Eh, the start's really tedious, could use more barrels near the imps and replace the demon with a zombieman, the rest of the map is just luck-based fuckery of where the monsters step and at what position they'll fire (that stuff doesn't work well if the enemies are extremely dangerous like here), map also has tons of visual bugs. 0/5
MAP05 by Phobus : Very fun and intuitive map, no complaints. 5/5
MAP32 by memfis : Best map of the session, love the layout and monster placement, splendid! memfis always delivers, this map would really shine if memfis kept it in. 5/5
Overall speedmappack : I'm afraid this would put back others from this community because of how most of the maps are here, but overall, this is genuinely good for a first session in this tiny ass forum. 2/5

@gaspe aww thanks sweetheart Yeah those sudden dropdown fights are indeed kind of gay, but imo they make a speedmap leave a stronger impression, which is kinda good even if the impression is a bad one joe-ilya what's "awkward walls to walk by" ?? Also ok yeah go ahead and sumbit an update to your map if ya want even though i intentionally waited for 3 days before compiling for this exact reason ayy lmao
