Alright cunts and assheads, we have apparently discussed all of the aspects of this thing that require discussing, so I guess we can finally move onto the REAL-ASS STAGE OMG!!!
DATE: 1st December 2017
TIME: all day, by GMT time (so from 00:00 to 23:59:59)
THEMES OR WHATEVER: Four different ones will be given at session start. They will be meant to be used "one at a time", but good4you if you can combine them, I guess. Three will be conventional (e.g. "Marble Hell, Outdoors Nature, Underground Base"), and one will be completely OFF-THE-CHARTS-LUNACY (e.g. "Must represent a popular sitcom") to give the lunatics among us some REAL-ASS-CHALLENGE.
TARGET PORTS: anything, yo! From the MANLY-ASS vanilla, over the SISSY-ASS GQZDoom family, to the OBSCURE-ASS Risen3D, anything will do.
TEXTURES: A super-secret, all-around texture pack by Memfis. TO GET IT, YOU NEED TO PM ME (or Memfis, I guess). It weighs 3,7 MB zipped, if you care. You will NOT be able to add new textures, except for SKIES. They can be added via whatever method you find convenient. Please do not add any other textures. If you do it despite me telling you not to, well... umm... I'll consider you an asshead.
OTHER RESOURCES OR WHATEVER: As ADVANCED-ASS ports are allowed to be used here, there also has to be a policy on the stuff that's exclusive to them. So: you may NOT define new monsters/weapons and stuff like that. So, if you want to make a Crysis 3 total conversion or something in 24 hrs, then hold yer horses yo. However, you may use MAPINFO to set some necessary effect.
I guess that concludes it so YO LET'S DO SOME MAPPERING!!!

Needs door textures with Doomer Boards logo, just incase no one knows it's from Doomer Boards. I will not be joining you, unfortunately, since I have the mapping speed of a garden snail, but perhaps this door could be of use. It's a 128x128 variant of BIGDOOR1 without the ugly W13_1 border. In Doom's palette, of course.

Hahaha that's swell! Um, in that case, in all of the finished maps I will replace the ordinary BIGDOOR1 with this if everyone's OK with that. So if you want to have the DB door, use bigdoor1 as its texture.

Themes:
1. Shiny-ass silver metal space base (a-la Vrack series) 2. Hellish converted techbase (a-la UDoom E2) 3. Marble gothic temple (a-la UDoom E3M5, M8)
4. Depiction of some religious plot (be wary of depicting prophet Mohammad though lol)

Dude I'm SUCH a fucking retard, I literally made a map for the first time in months yesterday without even thinking of this thread a single time. Bizarrely, I was speed mapping, the theme was shiny-ass space base and my time was almost exactly 1 hour. I even recorded it..
I'll of course be trying to make YET ANOTHER map but it's probably going to be garbage after that mini-outpouring of mapping energy I had yesterday, lmao

I'm getting slightly overwhelmed by all the UDMF goodness I'm just experiencing. This map has officially become a learning experience and will therefore probably not be the greatest thing I've ever made. I am enjoying it immensely, though.

For those of you interested in participating in this session, and I hope you are, don't set your standards too high for yourself. And not because I want you to hold yourself back so I can make a better map than you, but because you don't want to dissappoint yourself by going too ambitious. Just focus on making a map that's better than your last map. That's all. Baby steps! It's not about winning, it's just about doing a good job and working within limitations to accomplish something. Getting feedback is great, especially when you're finished something that you're proud of. So make sure you get the basic fundamentals of the map completed first, like having an exit, having some decent gameplay, some unique idea that ties the map together, and then using the remaining free time to tighten up the screws and decorate and do texture alignment -- the kind of stuff that doesn't really hurt your map if it's not done.
This is meant to be fun! No pressure!
