Doom community happenings

Yes, copying people's maps line-for-line is bad and deserves a slap on the wrist, but I think there are better ways to handle it than nailing someone to the wall infront of the entire house, especially since the project lead already rejected it outright. I'm not going through people's post history to seek out reasons to castigate them, so I don't know what else this kid has done (and truth be told, "being a nuisance" is not fucking good enough - we were all cringe teenagers once, no?) - but I fail to see what's been accomplished here that couldn't have been accomplished by:

-splitting/locking the thread
-PMing the offending user
-saying to them "look, stealing maps is a dick move, here's a warning, do it again and its a tempban"

Instead the outcome seems to be the rather bizarre decision to ban someone for a pre-determined time period, while also telling them to come back "when they've learned their lesson". At face value, it comes across as sociopathic and making an example of someone for the sake of it.

Reminds me of that Ultimate Doom slaughterwad where the guy just wholesale ripped off shit from (I think) Sunlust and some other wads that didn't permit reuse, was actually a dickhead about it, and was deservedly banned. Also I might be wrong, but I think that if Erik Alm were to see that, he'd probably just laugh and find it silly, and ultimately not really care...then go back to doing something more important

Okay, how is that narcissistic, exactly? Aren't wiki pages supposed to provide information about the authors? Looking at his Doomworld profile, it doesn't even show that he's banned, so putting that information on his wiki seems reasonable at the very least. You wanna talk narcissism? How about making a doomwiki page for yourself when you've been mapping for less than a year? Now that's narcissistic. Now that i think of it, i should probably make one for myself... what do you say? Will it make me feel like a Doom rock star?

Yeah, i'm sure you had nothing to do with it. The guy just decides on a whim to make a page for a lesser known mapper with just a few months of experience, and then proceeds to update it regularly. Don't bullshit a bullshiter. Even if the page was made by him, it is almost certainly by your request, and every update afterwards was done by you, or again, by your request. Or are you telling me that Xymph is following everything you do, just waiting to update your page on the spot? Doesn't matter though, i have no problem with you making a page for yourself, more power to you. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of calling someone else narcissistic, for updating his page about a Doom ban. Epicall even admits to the plagiarism in the page. As for the rest of the stuff he's written in there, it seem like a harmless joke, i don't see him taking himself too seriously. At the worst, it's a bit cringe, but who cares? How many people do you think are going to read it anyway? I wouldn't have seen it if you didn't brought it up here.

Not really. It’s usually frowned upon when no name mappers make them themselves instead of someone else. Usually you get one if some of your maps are on the wiki or you get a Cacoward, which the former happened to me. It’s not frowned upon when mappers add onto their page, like their list of works, probably as long as you’re contributing elsewhere as well. Not having a doomwiki page and mimicking one on your user page is rather cringe, especially using the language in the description he’s using, which makes him seem more important than he’s actually is. Also, noting that you got banned off DW on your “wiki” page never happens, not even Memfis, Tormentor667, 40oz, or TimeOfDeath, have their wiki pages saying they’re banned because honestly, it doesn’t really matter that much.
