Usually startups get bought out into oblivion. It's also interesting that the DW mods "don't have the skill" to patch stuff. They do, I think, unless I'm overestimating Linux nerds, but that's not how things work. If software is too loosy-goosy, it has holes too... "Keep it simple, stupid" is a motto, much said, for a reason. There's also a bunch of ways to patch Popular Now out on a personal level, like ad-block, etc. Low key, I have a secret JavaScript filter myself that turns any Everything Else content into goofy, alternate versions of itself. Regardless of personal preference, having the hell-scape of Everything Else bubble into the main page has social implications if it's the "default". Good to see that thing get the axe. imo.

They would've been better off to setup an old DOS BBS like Renegade in a VM. Safer, and easier to customize. Also it's free.  |
