So it can still matter if it's 100 years after the creation of said wad that doesn't allow authors to reuse or edit them?  I'm guessing forever with how the community takes this stuff seriously.  I won't disagree with you still being an asshole if you do use someone's work without their permission.

But you're talking about about an actual historical painting and a wad that was made for free. Your comparison is still apples and oranges in that sense. However if someone profited off of someone's work, then yeah there would be a legal issue.

I never said that the Mona Lisa painting was made for free. If you read my post it didn't say anything about the painting being made for free just the wad itself.

The distinction is being made about what ramifications should be made on a person that transgresses the permissions/restrictions on a creative work. Keeping in mind that the work was provided for free and that the costs of taking any legal action would certainly be a net negative for the offended party.

The question is how much does it matter to you?

It would be cool if the topic that has absolutely no bearing on one's intelligence could be free of sarcastic and condescending remarks about how stupid the person you're talking to is, but we're far past that.

people with bad cases of Trump Derangement Syndrome, like Scuba is evincing there, actually do think Trump is some kind of secret Nazi who's planning to rape Mexican babies to death though, hence why they he taints the slogan (I'm sure they'd deny America was ever great in any case). That's why it's so funny when they go on about 'democracy' while denouncing 'populism', even though populism is the essence of democracy and they themselves promote deferring to so-called 'experts' -- which is, of course, oligarchy. Matt Taibbi wrote an article recently re: free speech vs. coronavirus which has a bit about the anti-democratic slant of TDSers.

I love watching Doomworld rage at terrywads basically because they aren't cacoward-bait cool detailed setpiece slaughtermaps

I miss the days when I hung out with the terrywad crowd on discord. They had a sequel to B4NM.WAD in the works and were actually pretty cool dudes, I loved the banter. I wanted to contribute somehow but I'm shit at any mapping beyond Boom format, so I mostly provided feedback. I also made some work on a vanilla-compatible terrywad too. Good times. This was almost 3 years ago at this point.

Memfis have you played any proper terrywad? It's not all repetitive 2-room assrape traps. I mean it kinda is, but it's got a nice story to it, and a lot of work is put into that stuff. I'd recommend that you play the B4NM.WAD that I mentioned, it's on idgames, it's a megawad for Zandronum/Skulltag. Don't be afraid to use any cheat lol. If you don't look at it as a Doom WAD but rather just take it for what it is, you might enjoy it. You seem like the kind of guy that could appreciate that sort of humour lol.
My point is, don't judge terrywads by Aquarius199's videos, he reviews literal shit made for the explicit purpose of him reviewing it. Also don't worry about it breaking your computer, it's considered a bad practice at this point in the community, the idgames uploads are confirmed clean too.

Eh, most of them seemed like, well, people who are on Discord, if you know what I mean. Like anime fans, basement dwellers, sometimes furryfags etc. Others were people who probably look normal IRL, have a life and friends, and you'd never suspect they had an online presence like that. There were also a few folks like myself, who never really contributed much but just hung out.
They'd also use a lot of 4chan lingo (words like faggot etc). But in fact they were surprisingly welcoming and actually pretty cool. Like you could talk to them about a lot of stuff, a lot of them had gone through some shit in life and could offer some legit advice on something. But most of the time they'd just shitpost like the text that pops up in terry traps. Like "BLOODSHEDDER DESIRES TO FEAST ON SOME JUICYLICIOUS BOOTYASS! MY OH MY, WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?? THAT BOOTYASS OF YOU'RE'S LOOKS SCRUMPTILITIOUS!! I WI'LL RAPE IT UNTIL IT CAN NO LONGER BE RAPED!!", yeah the chat looked like that. Or raid other people's servers, usually ones belonging to this guy Omegalore. I never really figured out the reason why was Omegalore always the victim, I think he was just a lolcow. Anyway I think you understand what it was like lol.

As for whether they unironically enjoy working on Doom mods about assrape, I think yeah, it was a fun environment to work in, the wads were actually a pretty big undertaking. Probably not much different than why people work on normal megawads. Also I'm guessing that the reputation of being literally the villains of the community provides a fair kick lol.
