Nockson is correct here. The exit to the secret level does count. The "Greetings, mortal" is not a portal - just a firewall that disappears after a while. Scoreboard SilverMiner - 10 points Nockson - 9 points Xeep-Eep - 6 points switchblade - 3 points rancidsam - 2 points matador - 2 points JadingTsunami - 2 points lunchlunch - 1 point thundercunt - 1 point noisomedead - 1 point Q38. The ENDOOM lump represents an 80x25 block of text, where each position is stored as 2 bytes. The first byte is the ASCII value of the displayed character, and the second byte represents the color. How is the color encoded? Explain precisely.

I fucking love endooms!!!!!!!!!
4 bits for the character colour - red, green, blue, bright colour (each of the 8 colours has 2 variants) 3 bits for the background colour - red, green, blue (no brightness here) 1 bit for whether the text is blinking

Naturally! You would pass the desired number of Cybers as the command-line argument, and it would randomize their locations within the grid.

Or at least make them longer / more annoying. Let me try. Q42. While considering only the official UDOOM/DOOM2/TNT/PLUTONIA WADs, mention: 1. One level where a Cyberdemon can be telefragged. 2. One level where a Spiderdemon is replaced on lower difficulties settings with one or more Hell Knights. 3. One level where two Spiderdemons can infight. 4. One level where a Cyberdemon on Med/Hard is replaced with a Spiderdemon on Easy. 5. One level where from pistol start you can safely kill the lone Cyberdemon with rockets only, while his rockets are unable to hit you. 6. One level where a multiplayer-only Cyberdemon is stuck in a ceiling. As before - on the off chance that no complete answers are given - the one that got the most right gets the point in ~24 hours.

1. E4M2 2. D2 MAP06 3. D2 MAP28 4. Sounds like a TNT thing. Maybe MAP32? 5. Plutonia MAP06 6. The only mp cyber I can think of is D2 MAP20. It guards the circular platform but ends up teleporting into the low room where it gets stuck. Another map where a cyberdemon can be telefragged.

Lol I said Willits at random because it's a generic-sounding surname and I believe Willits still worked at id in 2005.
1. Ultimate Doom e4m6. 2. Doom 2 map06 3. Map28 Rest: no idea

No reason to wait 24 hours, because we have a winner! #1, #2, #3 are a given. Good guess on #4. In #6 you are correct, although I had a different location in mind - there is a weird stuck cyber in Go 2 It - yes, one of the 22 multi-only cybers they added on top of the 13 already there in single player. However, since I did not explicitly say it must already be stuck when the level begins, your answer is completely valid and more creative too. As for #5, then I would say it is easier to do on Plutonia MAP30, because the Cyberdemon cannot leave his platform and you can snipe on him from the bottom step on either side, while his rockets hit the ceiling. However, it absolutely possible on MAP06 as well, and there are enough rockets on the map to accomplish the feat. @doom 2005. Carmack and Carmack was a random guess too, but apparently there actually are two Carmack characters: Dr. Carmack, and MUTATED Dr. Carmack according to Wikipedia. So akk-chually there are two Carmacks...
But anyways, finally a question on Classic Doom. ... and it's gone.

Could be considered correct, but it was somewhat a stretch. Anyhow, stay tuned. I promise that all questions till the end of the session (which is going to be tomorrow or the next day, give or take) will be about Classic Doom. If the current one is ever answered, that is.

Q43. Who is the final boss of Prikol Software's Doom 2D and how do you defeat it? a robot who walks on two legs, it doesn't bleed. Elevating it by knockbacking and making it fly away into the right corner of the map, makes it die falling out of bonds, and then a red word КОНЕЦ is displayed

Q43. Who is the final boss of Prikol Software's Doom 2D and how do you defeat it? Hmmm... I don't know, so my answer is, again, two Carmacks. Two whole Carmacks that you have to defeat.

SilverMiner is correct. I think it can be done only with a BFG. Sorry I only now saw the answer, I was AFK for a while. I may extend the quiz session into tomorrow, to compensate for the time lost. Scoreboard SilverMiner - 11 points Nockson - 9 points Xeep-Eep - 8 points switchblade - 5 points matador - 3 points rancidsam - 2 points JadingTsunami - 2 points lunchlunch - 1 point thundercunt - 1 point noisomedead - 1 pointAs promised - only classic Doom questions from now. The next one should be easy for expert players. Q44. Explain with as much detail as possible how BFG-9000 trace damage works in vanilla Doom. Where, when, how and why.

emitter shoots, the ball derives the angle of emitter. when the ball dies, it calls once a spray function the spray function starts a cycle, which iterates for 40 slices: each slice uses the ball's angle to be calculated for each slice it finds one mob who got hit, if nobody was, it checks the next slice for a hit entity it calculates damage, adding to it random integers from 1 to 8, 15 times. then the damage is applied and the next slice is checked.
All this stuff happens in one tic, the player should look somewhere into the direction one has shot, for the best results. One mob can be hit more than once if it gets in more than one slice

your ball bursts, making you spray like a fan That's correct, but not detailed enough. SilverMiner - your answer has many of the details, but some things are not clear. Specifically: each slice uses the ball's angle to be calculated What do you mean by this? the player should look somewhere into the direction one has shot, for the best results And why is that? The question is still open for all to (re)answer.

Tracers are emitted in the direction in which the ball was fired, when the ball hits its target, from the player. I believe there are 40 traces, and the damage per tracer is somewhere in the 20-200 range. The traces are hitscan so it works like a pistol bullet or whatever. The angle that the tracers covered is hmmm let's say 180°. I dunno

What do you mean by this? there's an field which consists of 40 circular sectors, each sector depends on the iteration number and the angle of the ball (angle means direction it faces) that's cuz p_aimlineattack depends on emitter's angle, not the ball's angle.

Well, between the two of you, you kinda gave the complete answer, but funnily neither was exactly accurate. The number of traces is indeed 40. SilverMiner got the damage calculation formula precisely. However, the emitter (player's) angle at the time the trace function is called plays no role in the calculation - only the player's position and the ball's angle (which is actually the original angle the player fired the BFG). The player can turn and face the opposite direction, and the traces will hit and damage monsters behind his back. So xeepeep was correct on this one, but less correct on the per-trace damage, and on the damage cone width (it is actually 90°). Source: The BFG FAQAnyhow, since I cannot give half-points, and since it would be unfair to give full credit to anyone after this, because the two of you jointly gave the full answer away, I'm going to move on to the next question. Q44a. The sprites for the SS Soldier in Doom were lifted directly from Wolfenstein 3D. This leads to at least two graphical discrepancies - one of which is major, the other minor. Can you explain?
