We accidentally memed Planet of the Apes into existence with DBP50. Kontra Kommanda became ape a couple months ago and now the Monkeybox is spreading from him, and now everyone is becoming apes. I might join in too in a bit, but only after another month because super busy for a little while. Will become an ape too and go ungha-bungha with y'all later.

I think Discord is convenient for getting immediate communication during project organization but it does take too much discourse off-site. This is the case for any community with a discord.
As far as users only participating in drama and not Doom conversation, I've been guilty of that. A couple months ago I realized most of my posts online in general (not just here) were too negative. It's just a lot of misdirected anger stemming from personal IRL stuff.
An example would be I realized that even though I don't have a problem with segfault and I like him, the only interactions I had with him were when I disagreed with him (sometimes rudely). I realized that if that's all he reads from me, he probably thinks I hate him.
That's when I analyzed my online presence in general and realized I'm an asshole and take a lot of opportunities to overreact about others' opinions and decisions, probably as some sort of unhealthy release. A lot of that is getting caught up in silly DOOM drama. Arguing with people over something as banal as how DOOM "should" be played.
Not too long ago I spazzed on someone because they wouldn't play on lower difficulties. The rant started with "You're the problem..." Cringe. Not only was that hella lame, but in that moment I had become the exact thing I hated- the self-righteous, condescending, lecturing hall-monitors on Twitter that police others on how they should act and what opinions they should have...
So for me personally, I've tried to take a step back from online posting in general. When I do post on DOOM media, I try to only post about DOOM, and at all costs avoid the juvenile thrill of engaging in petty drama. I almost didn't post in this thread due to its potential for drama but I figure maybe this could resonate with anybody else that gets too caught up in angry bullshit online, and let it make up too much of their posting history.

But I never banned him for that. I never was vicious towards him for that. Other ppl disagreed with me. I fought with Glenzinho, but I think we got along for the most part. Take a look at when you came here back in July 2021 to justify the banning of DBPs. I even asked you why you were so gassed up about hating this place. I went to bat for DBPs and pmed Moredeth asking him to reconsider. But now that DBPs is kosher on DW again, you are back to direct hate towards me. That's why I accused you of being a conformist and spineless, because you just seemed to be riding the bandwagon of those that tried to get DBPs banned. I guess I'm an easier target than DBP as an institution. |

I don't think there's much point in recommending "stop giving a fuck" as a response to dealing with other people's online bullshit, because if you were gonna follow that advice then you would have done it by now. I will point out that I get less crap slung at me by the community at large, despite being the incarnation of the twitter anti-christ. This is because I don't react in the way they want me to, because I don't give a fuck what some sniveling butthurt discord bitch has to say about me.
They only way to moderate this fucking riot of retardation is to cultivate a disconnect between yourself and 90% of the fools in the doom community; the point of Jesus wasn't his martyrdom, it was when he rose above it.

I'm not thrilled that people like Bob Page or Tainted Slav being in that Discord and I've been pretty open about that, but guess what? When Slav wouldn't shut the fuck up about Major Arlene, Joe-Ilya actually did something about it that seems impossible for you: literally anything. Specifically, he told him that if he didn't shut the fuck up about Arlene or stop posting transphobic bullshit that he'd get banned from the Discord. The best you've been able to do is a "c'mon don't do that that's mean  ". Guess what? It fuckin' worked. As for the rift in the community and the two separate demographics: I dunno man. I spent a pretty significant chunk of my life the past few months contributing to DBPs. I'm a perfectionist and a slow mapper so making one of my maps for the projects takes me two to three weeks, but I think the results speak for themselves. Now, I'm not saying that I should get a crown and scepter or political immunity or even a gold fuckin sticker for how I choose to spend my free time, and I fully believe the years of effort you've poured into making DBPs what they are is by itself incredibly noteworthy and isn't getting anywhere near the recognition it should, but at the same time I don't appreciate being accused of homewrecking because I don't want to spend the rest of my free time posting on a forum where the most popular topics of discussion are 1) how much we hate Doomworld in general and Major Arlene in particular, 2) determining to what exact degree we should exterminate the untermenschen, and 3) why its so unfair that everybody else is so mean to us we've done nothing wrong. I dont know what to do at this point because it was really alarming to know how heavy-handed you are in the the topics of discussion on that discord, and the demeanor youve shown there is not at all like what ive seen from you here, so i dont know what to think about you. I dont see how i can continue to have this pretend friendship with you where you make maps for my project and i act like youre doing me a solid while i know youre going to joe ilyas discord to talk shit about me and/or support or passively accept when other people do.
