Alright, so I suggest agreeing on the conditions and all that first.
Date: Friday 01.12, everyone ok with that? Maybe a bit too far from today, but still seems like an ok day.
Time: 8 PM GMT, is that also ok? A second session for the American folks would probably be necessary, though. Saaaaaay 3 AM GMT? I'd need another dude to lead that other one.
Themes or whatever: so I was thinking to use something different than the combine-able themes that the recent dramatical sessions use, but rather completely mutually exclusive ones, to have more variety or something. Like, you can choose only one of 5 completely different themes. Or maybe just use jmickle's idea generator. Doomer Boards Roulette, anyone?
Textures or whatever: anything goes as long as you add them properly? Or only some specific texture pack, like cc4-tex, or why not... aa-tex (ancient aliens textures)? I'm personally sick of seeing the same cc4 texture recolours.
Port target: umm any? Even though I'm the definition of anti-port purist, I think we're having too many Boom maps and not enough advanced ones. Or just straight vanilla? That would be manly as heck.
Ummm anything else that needs clarifying: go ahead and clarify it, I guess?
one more important thing: I'm not suggesting a monthly event, just a one-hit wonder; if you want a monthly event then feel free to host one, I guess??

Vanilla sounds okay, but having a ZDoom session would be neato. I don't know about textures so I default to stock ones unless we use Mutiny textures that could also get Mutiny those last couple maps, and for a theme I'd say anything goes but I have a techbase, naturey stuff, and abstract weirdness fetish.
How long is the session? 2 hours, a day? I don't think it has to be two different sessions. Just have it take place on one day then everyone will map when they are ready and then start until the day ends for them. Getting a map done in a single day sounds speedy in my eyes :y
The next day is spent extra detailing/refining I suppose.

Vanilla is out of question. Nobody deserves to fight with visplanes while under a time limit. I think all ports should be allowed, why not? Let people use whatever they are comfortable with.
I don't see the need to enforce a specific texture pack. I say let everyone prepare their own packs in advance if they want to. And maybe forbid cc4-tex because yes, it's very overdone at this point. Just kidding?
I think there should be a list of themes to choose from, and I want all of them to be relatively liberal and non-gimmicky. Something very simple and abstract such as Hell, Space, or Nature. NOT "1000 monsters", "only outdoor areas", or "lol barrels".
3 or 4 hours would be fine by me. I don't like the idea of polishing the levels afterwards (unless you intend to use yours in a personal project or whatever). Speedmaps are supposed to be a little rough.
8 PM GMT is uncomfortably late for me. 6 would be better. Still, I'll try to participate at 8 if necessary.

I agree! Don't mind me regarding times of day since I stay up late most every day and have no problem going on until mid-morning.

it would be cool to have an official Doomer Boards texture pack. Maybe each of you guys could pitch in a zip file of favorite images you intend to use to compile the Doomer Boards pack, then speedmap with that.
Definitely recommend limit removing and/or boom compatibility. Vanilla is good if people can refrain from detailing their maps but if you reach a limit, you'll be wasting a lot of time trying to correct it.
Having a designated time is fun but for me, I have a lot of trouble getting to a computer whenever I can (I do the majority of my posting from my phone) What do you guys think about a 32in24 style thing where we just pick a date and everyone has to make and finish a map on that day? Some day I'll figure out some sort of solution to prove that we all mapped between certain hours.

I'd probably give 2-3 days after that to give people time to find bugs and all that. I agree that speedmaps have to be rough, but I'd rather have them bug-free.
40oz's DB texture pack sounds cool, I really like it. So I would give people time until 2-3 days before the session to send their textures, I'd quickly compile it into a single big texture pack and publish it some time beofre the session start. Great idea!
As for the ports: ok, maybe vanilla is a bit harsh. So I say 'any port you want'? L/r and Boom is cool and I'd expect the majority of maps to be in that format, but it would be cool to see what are folks capavle of when they are given bigger possibilities.
The general-ass themes was what I wanted as well. So we'll go with that ok? A few conventiional themes and one nutty one. So for example "computer center, marble temple, outdoors nature and social satire/deep philosophical meaning".

In speedmapping sessions I really like the feeling that there are people all over the world mapping in a hurry at the same exact moment. With 32in24 style that feeling will be partially lost, so I'm less enthusiastic about it. But if it will allow more people to participate, of course I'm fine with it.
I'm not sure about a custom texture pack. I've been mapping using the same self-compiled texture pack for a couple of years now. I'm not really interested in what others will submit, I don't need that. And I don't know which textures I will need in advance, so I would have to either send like 1500 or rely on luck... It would be a hassle for me.

My preference would be for a 32in24 set up, but only because my time is quite limited at the moment and I could only conceivably make it if I had a big window. I'm on the fence about source ports, as limit removing is a good compromise between simplicity and freedom, whilst ZDoom or something would give more possibility but also have much more scope to go wrong or be flawed by rushing. Textures I honestly don't care about, what with how easy making a map is.
Friday 1st of December could work for me. It'll all depend on work and my girlfriend, though.

Maybe... Here it is if you're interested. The idea was to collect only "Doom style" textures that can be used to complement the iwad ones well. But it probably got a little messy in the end.

(You've got some patches outside of the PP_ markers, btw. I think it doesn't make a real difference unless you have OCD or something but still.)
Um also, don't think I'm some sort of opensource linux freak or something, but is it legit when it comes to permissions? I see a text file with a list of sources but is that, like, enough?

I'm just now realizing the implications of my request. We should be careful not to actually rebrand mem-res.wad as the "official Doomer Boards texture pack" or something. I wouldn't want it to possibly suffer a similar fate that cc4-tex deals with where memfis is surrounded by maps that use all of his hand-picked textures improperly and by extension taints mapping for him forever.
I'd probably recommend keeping the link to this on the down low, distributing it directly to the people involved, and then merge all the speedmaps into a copy of the resource wad (and maybe using some sort of wad cleaner utility to delete the unused content.) I think some sort of GET THE TEXTURE RESOURCE HERE hyperlink would somehow creep its way into other projects in the future without memfis' direct permission.

Hmm. I think my main problem with cc4-tex is all these recolors that seem unnatural somehow and yet people put them everywhere. I'm not sure if I can get bored of mem-res... But ok, I'll take down the link for now just in case. Thanks for the idea.

So about the textures, does everyone agree on a secret private link to Memfis's tex-pack that would be secretly privately sent to participants?? (Perhaps we could publically post a passworded ZIP and send passwords secretly privately?) Also, custom skies WILL be allowed!

I've belatedly realised that I'm actually off work that day and my girlfriend isn't, so I've got plenty of time for this. Between about 8am and 8pm GMT, I think. That's either one solid effort, or a couple of quicker attempts, in my eyes. We'll see what the themes are like!
