Decided to start a thread just for random stuff that's going on, whether Doomy or otherwise. I hope people will feel free to post some freeform and even weird off the wall kind of shit right here. Maybe you've had a cunt of a day, post it right here. Maybe you've just come across a map that makes you feel all Doomy and gooey inside but don't want to write a review, post here. Maybe you've done a good deed for some cunt who needed it and you're now feeling like a good cunt right now, tell us, I like cunts who do all right and like to hear about it myself.
I've been playing more Doom these last few days, and it's been great. I've had the pleasure of the Shores of Russia being the first Doom I've played in many months, and followed that up with Oceanside by valkiriforce. It's reignited the spark that was missing for a while there and I thank these fine folks for their efforts. The last two days I've playtested some wads by Super Cupcake Tactics, which was a masterpiece for mine and just plain good and wholesome Doomy fun, and a map from Trace who's still learning the ropes and shows some potential and all of it just warms an old cunt's soul like the scotch I'm drinking right now. A cunt's got to remember sometimes, make Doom not war.

I am going to just start typing.
Today I woke up and hopped in the shower. I didn't actually hop, mind you. That would be a nice way for a topheavy gentleman such as myself to break my neck. So I will rephrase...I delicately stepped into the shower. Once I was done washing my entire naked body, I delicately stepped out of the shower and onto a towel that I laid on the floor earlier for safety's sake. I contemplated taking the razor to my head...but I decided that I would be better off doing that tomorrow for the sake of saving time. So I threw some mouthwash in my mouth and swished it about, not even realizing that I forgot to brush until later in the day. I then applied deodorant. Not just any deodorant, mind you. This is some baller ass shit. This is made with all natural ingredients and has mother fucking mint in it. This shit feels and smells amazing. But before I did that, I shaved my armpits for reasons still unknown to me. I supposed I got tired of just feeling the hair. I am not sure if I regret it yet. I'll let you know.
After my bathroom antics were done, I put on my work uniform and, being the gun loving American cunt that I am, placed my gun inside of my IWB (inside the waistband) holster and walked out to my car. With no imps, pinkies, or cacodemons in sight, I turned on some fuckin' Slayer and drove to the gas station to get some coffee. From there I went to work where it was business as usual. We just recently had some budget cuts at work, so we lost half of our security team. I was very fortunate to not get laid off this week. But even with that stroke of luck, I decided to place an application elsewhere just in case. Better safe than sorry.
This whole week has been decent actually. I celebrated my 27th birthday this week. My mother and brother took me out for sushi, and this weekend my girlfriend is taking me out for sushi and to the typical cunty American gun range where I will continue giving her firearm instruction. Then on Sunday, a group of friends and I are going to go to a local outdoor shotgun range where we will be shooting clay birds and exchanging stories of our past week's ups and downs.
Right now I am in my room, alone, it is nearly one in the morning, and I am tempted to polish off the rest of the whiskey I have sitting on my dresser.
Well, that's all for now. Bone voyage.

How come people seem to be so shy about making threads? (not responding to the existence of this thread btw)
I've gotten numerous messages requesting shoutboxes and facebook-style statuses. I've seen people apologize prematurely for posting things that might be construed as off-topic, derailing, or bumping a thread. People seem to either comment on stuff they're interested in, or just leave. There seems to be a desire from people to talk about whatever pointless mundane things they can think of, and simply not having an avenue for that. I don't get it. I want to read what you have to say!
If you want to rant about how the sun is too damn bright or how anarchism would make for a better political system, or how you believe humans originated from an ancient society of prehistoric molemen, or that boston market's gravy tastes like cat shit, or any other tangents you want to go on, by all means make your thread!!
This forum needs content creation! Do your part! Please vent about whatever is pissing you off, muse about weird thoughts you have, talk about things we should care about or be concerned for. Educate us on something you know a lot about!
Do you guys think you may have been conditioned by shitty moderation and spiteful communities to act more reserved? Perhaps a nervousness that people might not value your thread?
As administrator of this forum, I want to be clear that all that tactfulness you've had to develop and be cognizant of DOES NOT APPLY here. Seriously. I don't give a fuck about how far off the rails you want to go. I just request your cooperation if for any reason I need to speak to you.
Just do your best to be funny and/or interesting. That's all that really matters. I have no interest in banning people unless they openly refuse to be reasoned with. I also don't like to lock any threads until an argument is resolved. But I'm serious, all those weird thoughts you've had, things you wish you knew more about, conflicts you'd like to bring up, any of that is completely on the table here.
Bumping topics? Sure Derailing threads? Fine Backseat moderating? Whatever Foul language? Go for it
The only things I ever really get bothered by are when people command the thread -- like when someone posts every two minutes to respond to anything that might disagree with them. They seem so bent on controlling the flow of the discussion that they feel some sort of responsibility for having the final closing remark. That shit drives me crazy and happens all the time on Doomworld. I don't like when people do that here either. Not that it happens often, but its really dumb.
I'd like to create a new set of rules but too many people come here with other forums' rules already ingrained within them. I don't want to restrain anyone further. I just wish I could read more rants and blogs and stuff. I hate that people have to worry about people getting angry with them all the time. Just be yourselves!

Is there a way to include in the activation email a notice that reads: THIS IS NOT DOOMWORLD, FORGET THEIR RULES?

So I've been making some Japanese to Russian translations and I gotta say our anime subtitling community is really boring. Tens of users will download your subs silently, a few will say "thanks", and almost noone will leave actually useful comments. Even very poorly written criticisms excite me now because feedback is just so rare. What a contrast to the Doom community where a newbie with his first crappy map can get tons of responses. I appreciate people who talk about my wads so much more now.
Well, this doesn't bother me that much now that there are people actually willing to pay for my translations, but still I felt like complaining here.

Continuing my rant, I don't know how you guys feel about changing things, but I've been considering dropping the like buttons. I think they cause three problems that not many people care to admit.
1. People make posts seeking validation. The #1 rule of being cool is that you're not cool if you're trying to be cool.
2. With the first problem in mind, not receiving likes or as many likes as before has the adverse effect of suggesting that you are not liked.
3. Being liked is an overly sensitive and neurotic non-issue that breeds self consciousness. Knowing that people like what you say is generally useless information. But it stings when something you expect to get likes has a low return.
I think it makes much more sense to have an LOL or a heh button. If somebody always lols at your posts and you make a joke that that same person doesn't lol at, it just means your joke was tasteless, flat, or possibly offensive. Whether you are a funny person or not has no bearing on whether you are likable.

I think you're overthinking this 40. A person who would be affected by this kind of thing has bigger problems in their life than if somebody liked their post or not. Having said that I wouldn't be opposed to to changing the button to lol, or heh is probably better. I like the like button, it lets me respond to something I like and if it's something I agree with I'm not going to add to the pile of comments or say what has already been said in a different way, I'll just like it.

I think I agree with everything 40oz said about likes. Also, I feel like I would rather have people actually telling me that they liked what I said instead of pressing a button. Somehow it's completely different.
Some sites also have a reputation system. The way it works is that you can press "+1" below a post but you also have to actually write something to explain why you're pressing it. Maybe that would be better.

This reminds me... last week I walked into a metal sign post. Hit my head and body right into it. I was looking down at my phone, so I probably deserved it. An Asian couple were right behind me and saw it happen. They looked concerned at first, but then quickly started laughing. It was swell. Not embarrassing at all!!! And hey, here's where it happened, on GOOGLE MAPS! How exciting! You guys can see my shit city, and also relive part of the embarrassment first hand (it's the sign with the big white arrow): www.google.ca/maps/place/103+Princess+St,+Winnipeg,+MB+R3B+1K6/@49.8960812,-97.1440498,3a,75y,265.44h,76.74t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s-eVD0BJ70_fXpOQK-Q7a3g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m5!3m4!1s0x52ea715c3cbe54df:0xb14dab787793f82d!8m2!3d49.8982469!4d-97.1419303 Heh, Cummings: www.google.ca/maps/place/103+Princess+St,+Winnipeg,+MB+R3B+1K6/@49.8961702,-97.1434301,3a,75y,189.99h,90.3t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sSjB5e22nc5A85B5PdUsK-Q!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m5!3m4!1s0x52ea715c3cbe54df:0xb14dab787793f82d!8m2!3d49.8982469!4d-97.1419303 Hopefully those links work.

Hmm, they work for me but only if you highlight the whole thing and past it into the top url bar. Not just the hyperlink part, but the entire ugly, heinous link.

I don't think too much about likes but I do enjoy receiving them. Also I do feel like I've gotten a bit more reserved and having to stay away from posting on Doomworld. Especially lately with the removal of Post Hell and status updates the whole site has just gotten boring and a little toxic too for reasons I'm sure were explained elsewhere here. I enjoy the relaxed all-doomers-welcome hangout and such stuff we have going on here

I rarely post here because I rarely post anywhere anymore, there's not much my depressed ass has to say anyway. I like the "like" system because as stated before on DW I use it to let people know I've seen the post they directed at me if I'm not going to reply to and it allows me to say "I agree" without making a pointless 2 word shitpost. - As for something random, I ate a microwave burger not too long ago and now it feels like Mount Olympus wants to leave every hole I have

I have been kinda affected by this. Doomworld is making me very paranoid. It's especially depressing when I see people say something really mean and it gets a lot of likes. It just adds a lot of extra weight to punch. It's not a problem here, of course, but often don't get any self gratification when my posts are liked. I'd certainly rather see more posts. There's often not many comments in each thread to pile on to begin with. This reminds me... last week I walked into a metal sign post. Hit my head and body right into it. I was looking down at my phone, so I probably deserved it. An Asian couple were right behind me and saw it happen. They looked concerned at first, but then quickly started laughing. It was swell. That also reminds me that I meant to go around my town and take pictures for the photos thread. I just haven't found the time to do it yet. I don't think too much about likes but I do enjoy receiving them. Also I do feel like I've gotten a bit more reserved and having to stay away from posting on Doomworld. What happens to me is I post something that a bunch of people like, I get excited... But then my next post doesn't get anything and so I feel like I said something stupid lol. It's as if I become dependent on this "validation" other people give me. And it sucks.

It's especially depressing when I see people say something really mean and it gets a lot of likes. It just adds a lot of extra weight to punch. Fully agree. The most depressing is when it is you who said something mean. Like, I publically call out felgro for the Doomsday thing, 11 likes (most likes I ever got on anything). I didn't mean to insult him or anything, just give "construcive criticism". Yet so many people siding with me made me feel like some sort of nasty internet bully. Oh, by the way, when I discovered a brand new really badass vanilla hack, I got only 8 or so likes. (Not whining, just comparing.)

Although bullying does suck, I find I am most productive when angry. I actually enjoy being annoyed. It usually motivates me in one way or another.

It's 5:12 am and I just woke up from a dream in which I was on a speed boat fishing by an electric dam. As I was leaving the dam a giant water column opened up nearby and swallowed another fisherman. Sucked their whole boat down to the bottom of the lake. It was huge and really terrifying. The closest thing I can think of is a bell mouth spillway, only far more menacing looking.

Oh, dreams. I have one that kinda creeped me out.
I had a dream a few weeks ago where a Serbian emperor from the 14th century caused a hurricane inside of every bus in Belgrade (our capital) with the goal of rescuing the British Queen Elizabeth I and taking her back to her homeland, Spain (dunno if Spain is actually her homeland lol). And so I was a part of some research team that tried to find the "HQ bus", the one where the emperor's spirit is hiding in. I'm not sure what happened next. I think it was a thrilling ending such as "HAHAHA YOU'RE LATE, ELIZABETH HAS FINALLY RETURNED TO HER HOMELAND" and the emperor fading away to obscurity.
I had previously caught a cold and had a temperature of about 39°. so it's probably kind of a hallucination. I also fell unconscious for the first time in my life soon after I woke up. Another funny thing is that I wasn't fully asleep while I had that dream. Sometimes I'd wake up, see my room around me, but still hear the Emperor's voice and the blowing winds around me.
I think I have a killer movie scenario here. It would definitely become a cult film.

I rarely post on forums nowadays too because there really is nothing interesting to talk about in terms of topics of interest. We used to be aspiring Doomers, even newbie mappers, but we don't even do much anymore. Probably the pull of real life has got to us both. As for random things, uh, well I haven't posted on this particular forum in almost a year, so there's that. Also hi
