Doom community happenings

Sunder is one of those wads that I love to look at but honestly don't much like playing. It feels like something I should be getting paid to play, or perhaps a challenge wad that if you complete it you get a free steak dinner at a fancy restaurant. I mean, there's "kinda hard", there's "Ghouls 'n Ghosts hard", and then there's "Why the hell am I frustrating and angering myself for no reason playing Sunder?" hard. No hate towards it whatsoever though. Sunder is clearly a fantastic creation and it deserves all the praise it gets. But for me it ventures away from the realm of a "fun, enjoyable game" into the realm of an elite life challenge that you force yourself through so you can impress your friends or whatever.

I've just tried and I was like nope. I mean, I did kinda well in the first level without much savespam and at the second level I ended up without ammo and still 50 revenants to kill. Then I idcleved at various levels and there was one with over 4000 monsters. Shit!

It's not that it's impossible, I just sometimes like to play Doom in a more relaxed manner, and I can still be good with tough situations but not like that. Maybe I prefer classic Doom maps that have some nice environments, atmosphere, oldschool gameplay. Not my taste but a lot of Doom players seem to like that kind of slaughtermap (and that's the most insane I've ever seen, first level archvilles with shotgun, Cyberdemon, second level many archiviles, two Cyberdemon (that escalated quickly =)) while I prefer something more relaxing with great atmosphere and environments.

These are the kinds of wads that co-op was made for!

I am happy for Deus Vult, I remember I liked the last one. And also BTSX is gorgeous.

meh, BTSX seems like a all-star reunion of great mappers to produce boring "avant-garde" maps. It's kind of dissapointing to see these fantastic mappers doing something this dull and harmless

I keep forgetting to play this. Why are they talking about "EP3?" I thought the rest of it was still unfinished.

It's rare that a mainstream gaming site writes such a good in depth article on Doom, most of them are like they discovered there is actually a Doom community and mostly focused on mods rather than maps.

I guess, because Elon Musk has criticised the mainstream media and from my observation it became political, so more SJWy types will hate him now, and maybe DW is leaning more to that side (I fucking hate that twitter avatar among others, who think communism is cool). Of course it doesn't help he called the guy a pedo (never call someone this, it's no joke). I know, Elon is a special character, he is kind of a myth, I don't know whether he is Steve Jobs style (pretending to be genius figure on the outside but really others doing the nerdy work) or he is more of an engineer and how much is he a true geek involved and how much a PR person. He is an interesting character anyway.

I really wish Everything Else would simply be closed down entirely. Maybe just make it about "General Game chat" so that non-Doom games have a place to be discussed. I get wanting to avoid irritating political threads but why the heck aren't people allowed to share different opinions on Elon Musk, especially when it's totally civil? I just find that such a weird and arbitrary thing to censor. Oh well.

Also gotta love how Mr Freeze makes sure to pop into EVERY Duke Nukem thread EVER to make damn sure that every last soul on Doomworld knows that Duke Nukem is an EEEVIL franchise that is only enjoyed by EEEVIL people..

Nothing is just allowed to be stupid, low-brow comedy anymore, even when it fucking sells itself as stupid, low-brow comedy. If that seems like something you don't like, you're free to avoid it, dumbass. There SHOULD be a time and place for low-effort, stupid, chest-pounding comedy but certain people just want to wipe it off the fucking map. Their sensibilities are all that deserve to be catered to I guess?

You gotta love that everyone wants every goddamn character to be a role model. My big question is, WHY? I'm just gonna lay it out plain and simple, if you're looking to fucking Duke Nukem for social guidance or notes on "how to treat women" or whatever else then you're a fucking idiot and should probably seek psychiatric help. The character is not designed as a fucking social teacher, he's designed to be a meat-headed over the top stereotype that makes you laugh with his dumb one-liners (so long as your heart isn't cold, black and shriveled from your inability to laugh at anything anymore. I know mine would be if I viewed every character ever made - even the dumbest, shittiest ones - as fucking role models, and as a result forgot how to laugh at dumb humor.)

Let those of us who enjoy dumb meathead comedy just enjoy it please. I mean sure, you can rage over your keyboard all you want, but I'm worried that enough drooling dipshits doing this may result in censorship. "Your little feeble brain can't comprehend that this is a fucking joke and that Duke is NOT a role model, we better hide it away and keep you safe!"

Thinking Duke Nukem is a fun and funny game doesn't make a person evil. I pwomise.

I love EE. It became such a stereotype of itself, you could scramble the poster names in the "cool" crowd and hardly see a difference. They're so perfectly locked in with each other in their opinions. Elon Musk bad! Media good!

They ALL thought Elon Musk was awesome until the Twitter cave rescue, then they ALL turned their opinion 180°. Nothing short of amazing.

Still, fraggle wins the thread for getting all up on his high horse and calling out "Silicon Valley types"... Last I heard, didn't he work for GOOGLE???
