Lol I was looking up the others, and I'm pretty disliked by those developers too. Oh well... I should stick to the idea of creating my own 2.5D FPS engine and say fuck everyone else. Which ones did you look up? EDGE Classic, Eternity Engine and Odamex seem to be all viable for development of new games and have many exclusive mapping features, I've had a talk with their creators and they definitively are way nicer than the ones from GZDoom. The main developer of EGDE Classic almost got banned from Doomworld because he named one of his mods M.E.G.A. , which stands for "Make EDGE Great Again" , it's very disgusting to see the administrators passively threatening him. www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/114142-mega-project-making-edge-get-active/ A lot of game developers have been making games in GZDoom, one of the main issues of it other than performance is the fact that it had more than 100 contributors, and due to the open source license it's not possible to port them to consoles, Boom code for example can't even be licensed anymore due to the fact that the main programmer already passed out. |

I have given in to the DSDA-Doom borg from PrBoom+ for about a year now. It's a shame that Kraflab became a victim of his own success - started as a "speed-run oriented port" but the port ended up outshining all the rest for general use too, causing quite an interesting demand spiral. Really clean port. It's corollary format, MBF21 has some features that bug me (insta-kill floors are actually bad imo, rant for another day), but gosh damn DSDA-Doom is a clean port.
Never using GZDoom ever again. Never tried Eternity (aka, "The Heartland Port")

DSDA-Doom or Woof for the ability to play zipped files
Zandronum for playing multiplayer maps with bots
Gzdoom for Zdoom compatibile maps, obviously
For mapping:
CRL for vanilla Doom and Heretic
Crispy Doom for limit removing
DSDA-Doom or Woof for Boom/MBF/MBF21
Gzdoom for Zdoom compatibile

I'm pretty confident that the profile of this website can really only be raised when the quality of what there is to read on this forum is improved. This is the often repeated criticism of this forum over the course of years. Graf Zahl outlined it as such in this post. www.doomworld.com/forum/post/2603776Many of the users here don't have much to say about Doom, but a lot to say about political agendas and mainstream media etc., which many people that are specifically interested in Doom would find very off-putting to read. I recognize that people do like to be free to talk about these things without being under the moderation gun, so I allow it. But this doesn't make this forum particularly attractive to people who don't want to be caught in the crossfire of these kinds of discussions. For the record, I like ketmar, I like k8Vavoom, and I'm grateful that he uses this forum to talk to people about it. |

40oz Doomworld has political and off topic threads. In fact, I see multiple people with things like "FIGHT TRANS GENOCIDE" and "abolish whiteness" right there under their avatar which show up in every single post outside of the politically contained areas. I think I even saw a "Pride Flag Hud" in the mods area. But I guess the default response to that would be "people's identities aren't political" (lol). Doesn't the Doom subreddit have giant Pride flags and symbols all over every single page? They aren't criticizing the existence of politics, they're criticizing the existence of people who don't share their beliefs. I'm new here and it's absolutely not my place to be telling anyone how to run anything, but I think as long as political stuff is kept out of the main areas it's fine. And it will absolutely be attractive to people who just want to play Doom. And I promise you those people are the majority.

In a very primitive form of friend/enemy distinction. I think you should give up on trying to get the respect of people who will never give it to you. You will always have "cooties" for being the admin of Doomer Boards. For the record, my mods have been quite successfully in the broader community, outside of forums, without their endorsement. Because I am a firm believer in merit of work over frivolous bullshit, or anything I say. Just like the way I used source-ports of people that probably despise me, because their work has nothing to do with it.

The point is, I personally am sick of going back to people from communities that dislike us, and using their shit. So Ketmar is "one of us" so I figured it would have been an easy choice. But I guess not, since you are not willing. Fine, it's all good.
