Will do. I have some ideas I'd like to try out, so we'll see if I can't shape it into something playable over the next few days. I'm a bit of a snail though, when it comes to mapping. No deadline, no rush, no worries.

So when I was over at the Kid of Doom’s manor I had him run through the latest draft of Map 05. If anyone else wants to run through it too and leave some feedback, it’s up on Doomshack at the link below: DownloadIt is basically what I would call 90 something percent done and can be finished. These are the basics: * MAP05 so just zombies, imps and demons with weapons available up to slot 5. * ZDoom but not created with jump, crouch or mouse look in mind, though it shouldn’t hurt anything critical. It’s really more fun with auto aim and no mouselook. * Run it with cc4-tex and the resource wad, they’re included in the zip. * Exit area is rough but is pretty much the last major thing that needs doing. You can exit the map. * no difficulty settings at this stage. * if you’re kind enough to demo it, please use the final ZDoom version 2.8.1 * ffs turn the music down, it’s pretty loud and probably won’t make the final cut. I usually don’t listen to the music in Doom anyway. * only runs about 5-7 minutes. Like it, love it, meh it, hate it, just don’t be indifferent. If you play it, give me your opinion and by all means call me a cunt if you deem necessary. It’s only fair.

I will try. I have never recorded a playthrough before.

I played it a few times. Some thoughts:
-Soylent Green! Not much of a mystery what it is made of here... Heh.
-I like the 3d-floor heavy set up. The mass of pinkies in the beginning prevented my ascent at first, leading to an enjoyable fight.
-I didn't mind the music - In fact, I thought it went well with the action of the map.
-Despite playing fairly recklessly, I always found enough medical supplies to get my health back up to safe levels as the map progressed. I also never ran out of ammunition until I started off using the chaingun on the pinkies. This may or may not be a problem, depending on your intent with the level. All maps needen't follow the Finnish Frugality Formula. The IWAD maps sure didn't!
-I'm not a Doom world champion by any means, but I'm certainly pretty good at it. I'd say that the current difficulty of the map would be... Hurt me Plenty? This depends of course what you are going for, @glenzinho . By IWAD standards, it's clearly Ultra-Violence.
-You should make something spectacular and suitably evil as the exit, I think. Something memorable. How about an oven or a crusher for the Soylent machine?
-The map isn't very grim and gory looking, but well lit and more of a "friendly" shooting gallery than an actual place which has been tainted by evil. The influence by modern, high-profile WADs is evident. More Doom required? ...Just a personal preference though. Take it as seriously as you want.

Fantastic feedback bro, that was exactly what I was looking for! I would liken difficulty to HMP myself too, but I want to see how Trace plays it and tailor it around him. I’ve got a feeling he is the middle ground I’m looking for difficulty wise. Thanks for suggestions about the finish, that’s what my focus will be when I resume during the work week. I like pretty stuff, but I may darken it up a bit more to be more prisony as well as add more prison detail. The gory stuff I have to think a lot about as that stuff doesn’t really impress me any more so I really have to try to throw the ketchup about the place. Cheers Olroda , I know who to hit up for great feedback next time!

For the record...it doesn't have to be prison themed. "Gore Prisons" just sounded cool and happens to be an anagram for "progression." The maps should be heavy on the gore. Prison aesthetics are praise worthy but optional.

@glenzinho : Have a belated demo for 2.8.1. I deliberately refrained from using the chainsaw or the berserk fist. As you can see, I was still swimming in ammo. TOS : To record a Zdoom demo for the map, make a shortcut with this in the command line -> -record NAME -warp 5 To play it, use -playdemo NAME instead.

Dude that's all Greek to me.
What do you mean make a shortcut, what is a command line amd where do I find it? Tech lingo is a completely foreign concept to me.

How did you run the demo that I sent you ages ago for Map01? Download ZDL, it’s a front end launcher for Doom that will make your life easy and give you somewhere obvious to add command line parameters. Olroda thanks a lot for the demo my brother from another mother, I’ll check it later.

Trace, you should probably follow Glen's advice, but I'll make you a clarification anyway. I have a light fever at the moment and I'm off work so I have time. I'll be assuming that you have some version of Windows installed on your computer.
If so, download Glen's file and rename it to something shorter (if it's too long this won't work). Let's call it "donk.zip".
Now, go to where you installed zdoom. Put the "donk.zip" file in that folder. There should also be a file called "zdoom.exe" or just "zdoom" in there. It's the only file which looks like the Doomguy.
Right click with your mouse on said file and select "Create shortcut". A new file appears. It would be called "zdoom - shortcut" or something similar.
Right click on the new file and select "properties". A new box with lots of text in it appears.
There should be a field which is labeled "target". There is an adress in that field. The adress to the zdoom file. The command line. It will look similar to this (depends on where you installed it)-> "C:\zdoom-2.8.1\zdoom2.exe"
Make sure that you stand at the end of "C:\zdoom-2.8.1\zdoom2.exe" and that the text isn't selected. Press space.
Type this there-> "-file donk.zip -record NAME -warp 5", without the "".
"-file" tells zdoom to load whatever file you've written after that command.
"NAME" could be whatever you want. It's the demo's file name. The "warp" part is just so that we start from MAP05 right away.
Press OK once you are done and then click on the new shortcut file to open zdoom. The recording will start automatically and end once you shut off zdoom as normal. The demo file will then be created.
Finally, if you want to play the demo you've created, do exactly the same but replace "-file donk.zip -record NAME -warp 5" with "-file donk.zip -playdemo NAME".

Great demo dude, gives me a lot insight of what to do next... I'm pretty happy with the balance after watching you play for HMP, I will cunt it up a bit more for UV heh. I noticed you shaking your head at the wall hump secret. I'll make that one a bit more obvious. It wasn't obvious for Doomkid either so you're in good company. Thanks once again, I'll hit you up in private for an UV run when ready if you don't mind.

TOS : if you download that ZDL program above you can add wad files and command line arguments more easily. There will be a box down the bottom of the interface that says "Extra Command Line Arguments" above it. In that box you will put the following: -warp 05 -record xxxxxxx xxxxxx is whatever you want to call the demo. When you first open ZDL you will have to specify to the program where to find your ports and IWAD files. You'll be using Doom 2 for this so make sure Doom 2 is highlighted in your "IWAD" window. In the "External Files" part of the interface, that's where you add your PWAD files. That is where you will put cc4-tex.wad, then my files which is MAP05 Trace Project Resources.wad and MAP05 Trace Project.wad Use the final version of ZDoom which is 2.8.1 please. You will usually find the finished demo in your ZDoom folder. Send that file to me.

Played the map. I like the arcadey feel of it. Very fun to play! I love getting the rocket launcher and blasting away the fodder. I will need to download zdoom before I can record a demo.

I would like to discuss our intended format and level of compability a little, TOS . If I've understood correctly, it's ZDoom-compatible we're going for, which means playable with both ZDoom and GZDoom, right? The reason for me asking you that is because I've done some work with coloured lights. When I test the map in GZDoom, they look impressive, but, as I suspected, it doesn't look right in ZDoom. Example image: Mirrors (Action182) seem to bug out in ZDoom as well when viewed from certain angles. It seems to me that some features which works better or at all in GZD should perhaps be avoided to ensure that ZDoom users won't be left out. This is almost a rhetorical question with an obvious answer from you, but I just want to be sure whether we're going for "compatible with zdoom" or "compatible with gzdoom". Thanks once again, I'll hit you up in private for an UV run when ready if you don't mind. Please go ahead. The same goes for anyone else who wants some input. I'll be bugging you for the same once mine is closer to being finished!

Olroda is it possible to run GZDoom in software renderer without a graphics card? I have one but optimal base compatibility is what I'm getting at here for user-friendliness. I don't think my map will be affected by a complete GZDoom compat level, of course it's up to the Chicabro in the end.

Admittedly I have no idea what will work in GZD but not ZD. But you guys seem to have a better grasp on that aspect then I do. So I'll say that if something will work in GZD but NOT ZD, avoid using it.

is it possible to run GZDoom in software renderer without a graphics card? I don't know, but stand by for a better answer later today. So I'll say that if something will work in GZD but NOT ZD, avoid using it. Understood, will do! I knew about the coloured lights since before but the mirror stuff was new to me. I took some time to read up on Action 182 however, and it turns out that mirrors do work in ZD 2.8.1 or earlier - but only if you have an empty void of equal size to the mirror's reflected area behind the mirror. As an example, a 128x128 room with the western line set to 182 will need a sectorless 128x128 area west of it. Later zdoom versions (GZD set to software renderer, for example) are better programmed, so they will work even without those precautions. Here's the source, but I have also tested this with ZD 2.8.1 and the latest GZD. As for what features are GZD only, this page lists some of it.

Thanks, TOS! I don't know, but stand by for a better answer later today Unfortunately, it seems as if this test will have to wait until I get access to another computer, which will happen in a week or so.

Progress is good! Did you know gore prisons is an anagram for progression? As in “this project suffers from lack of progression?” I’ll be happy to check what you’ve got when you’re ready Olroda
