To me DBP48 sucked hard first and foremost because it was GZDoom exclusive. It doesn't even feel like a DBP. Thus, I can't blame the people that say that the DBP name was sort of hi-jacked to get this mod out.
It is a jarringly huge difference to go from a series that birthed 47 awesome vanilla limit-removing projects to suddenly GZDoom exclusive. It could have been a side project with a lot more time in the oven than the 1-month limit DBPs are restricted to.
I would've preferred a venture into a boom-compatible wad first if there were going to be any breaks from vanilla limit-removing. Imagine an Auger;Zenith prequel in boom!
Please keep making mods to your heart's content. Accept that criticism came from the objective point that it was a jarring break from form for DBPs and move on. You can only improve from here after considering the points made by others of the actual content of DBP48. That's part of the beauty of creating art after all.

Unlike things like Linguortals, my trick is actually usable in real maps... except that no ports support it. i just made that statement wrong: current dev version of k8vavoom converts it to ZDoom horizon (and hence supports it). ;-)

Yes, if I ever do make mods again, it won't be a DBP. It is not my scene, ironically, considering I started this community. I also struggle to bring myself to create anything for GZDOOM anymore considering the creator is a fucking asshole towards me. As well as an ungrateful prick considering I created one of the best mods on his platform. People go on about programmers, it's like someone going on about canvas makers instead of artists. Hence my dilemma in modding. Therefore, my energy is better served elsewhere outside of modding a 29 year old game.

I think the doom scene is saturated with too many mods, so people dont actually play them that much. It's a bit like TV series: there are so many to choose from that you get tired just thinking about even watching anything. Hands up how many people played my Aliens mod? Exactly. I haven't played it, but I think it looks cool from what I've seen.

It's better To Mod than Not To Mod. Just a lot of communist hive minded douches don't think things and people have the right to exist and want to control everything. I haven't touched much of any games in the last few months, but I added the Aliens for EDGE here a few months ago. doomer.boards.net/thread/2670/newest-avpvtv-oldest-avpvt-themeDBP48 is not GZDoom exclusive. It also works in LZDoom. With the latest version released by me being Zandronum compatible and then there's a separate RZDoom compatible version released by Gibbon. Not counting the "Limit Removing version" I had nothing to do with except it using my textures and yet still had missing texture errors last I looked.

I say if you want to mod, you should mod. As you mention, you've had success with it in the past.
As for DBP48, DBPs carry a lot of baggage and after 47 of them, people have lots of expectations and opinions about what they are. Jumping straight into project lead on your first DBP probably wasn't a good idea. I think there were a lot of little things early on that caused people to doubt your leadership and the project just didn't have enough mapper support.
If you wanted to do something DBP related, I think a better idea would be for us to develop a more traditional DBP (limit-removing, cl2) based around your sprite work. Whatever it is though, it'd need to have mappers get behind it. We didn't have a lead for DBP55 so we just collectively whipped up a theme in the Mapping Workshop, maybe something like that might work better? I guess we'll see how successful this approach is when DBP55 releases.
