I played some Dreamcatcher yesterday and today. Pretty fun stuff as usual, and the palette effects are very nice. After going at it on UV (expecting something suicidal) I see that the difficulty has been lowered quite a bit compared with other DBPs. Catering to the lame streamers and paid propagandists game journalists?
Not that I dislike it, I'm just curious. I never was a fan of ridiculous difficulty myself, but seeing those streamers fumble around is just painful to watch.
EDIT: I almost forgot to mention that I thought using the X-Files theme for the text intermissions was a nice touch!

Actually, I consider that this change is for the better, also some later maps stuff should be ridiciously difficult. There were certainly mappers who did troll difficult maps and refused to nerf them, according to the exchanges between 40oz and them. One of them was even proposed by its own mapper to be put in secret slot, but it was placed in the main progression instead. While I can't testify as to how difficult the maps went into the end because I opted out of testing potentially frustrating stuff, your feedback probably misrepresents the mapset taken as a whole to those who really need easy maps. I prefer playing easy stuff >80% of my time. With lockdowns, forced masks and vaxx, and now war also, this went to 99.99% of my time. And I'm certainly not a streamer nor a journalist.

Using the X-files theme for the text screens is a default track in the template DBP resource pack that 40oz created for himself.

Drowning Abyss was pretty tough yeah, and Thrashing in the Web is a pretty good "ultimate challenge" to end the wad on. The early maps aren't very tough but I think that's overall a good decision, this way more people can enjoy the overall aesthetic and design, while we still got something for the people who want to slam their dick in the car door. Everybody wins.

It's a 20 map WAD, so I wouldn't want the difficulty to ramp up each level into the 20-30 minute range. There's a lot for content to get through, so I feel a casual playthrough will allow most to get through and appreciate the aesthetics more.

There is a soft lock situation in MAP08 where if the player runs through the plasma arena first (the techbase-themed arena directly across from the exit) the walls blocking the exit teleporter will not lower properly. I will create a hotfix tonight to fix this. In the meantime, either do the SSG or rocket arena first, or just follow the honor system and noclip once you're done lol. My severe apologies for the inconvenience.

I've created a hotfix for the softlock in MAP08. I've also found a couple typos in one of the text screens on UMAPINFO and ZMAPINFO, so I've included fixed versions there. (in the future matador you can use an escape character to use double quotes in a text string, like this: \" ) www.mediafire.com/file/cgnco6tjefp8xnt/DBP_47_hotfix.wad/file40oz matador my extreme apologies for letting this slip, would you be so kind as to fold this in and post a new version?
