As far as I'm concerned the last Id game is Quake II. Doom 3 gets an honourable mention, but that's it. The current studio is just Id In Name Only (for the last two decades), and I'm completely uninterested in whatever garbage they are hawking.
The only real software piracy is perpetrated by chinks and the like (who sell someone else's work as their own). If a nice guy on the internet is willing to give you a copy of a game he's got so you can try it out, it's not immoral in any way - he's just sharing.
It's like this: If 'A' sells potatoes to 'B' and 'B' plants them and gives his friend 'C' a part of his harvest... Is 'C' a dirty thief? Of course not. If 'A' objects, he should obviously go and fuck himself.
The bottom line would be to support the work of people you like so they can produce more stuff you like. Id In Name Only didn't produce anything worthwhile and certainly not Doom (1993).

that makes really much sense and i heard that when u play the steam version of doom 1 then john romero and some people who didnt make the game are credited for it. and that makes me so angry. but also i dont care if some one pirates doom eternal or doom 2016 even if these games are good because they re not as good as doom 1 and doom 2 and final doom , and they dont have modding support and the games are extremely expensive and that just really sucks. so because of that i dont care if some one pirates the new doom games.

Isn't Kevin Cloud still there? So I think that's one person who worked on originals still there.
But can you even buy the original uncensored versions today? I bought the Doom and Doom 2 Classic because I think they're worthwhile at $5 a piece for the new features. So it gives me the option to install the "original" versions on Bethesda Launcher. So I recently install them from there out of curiosity. They're dos versions running in dos but they're something like the shitty BFG edition iwads! They're also horribly set up. Normally the dos games run great in dos box or dos box staging for me, but at least one of them ran like molasses. So can you buy Ultimate Doom where you can see the NIN in E4M1 and can you buy Doom 2 with the uncensored Wolfenstein maps, or uncensored health items in either game?
I suppose you could search for a unity extractor, extract the iwads, and then use IWADconv or Omniscient to change it to regular or Ultimate 1.9, etc.

You can buy physical copies of Doom Collector's Edition on eBay. You get Ultimate Doom, Doom II and Final Doom (Doom95 versions). Sometimes the price gets to be more than $5 a piece, but sometimes can be even less, as there seem to be many copies available (unlike the original bigbox releases).

No dos version with them? I got Final Doom's initial release and it has both dos and Doom95.
Anyway, it looks like Bethesda/Zenimax/current id (also recently acquired by Microsoft) refuse to sell the original versions, and either way make no money as people buy it used or pirate it.

I dont know a single person who actually bought Doom. I found my Copies (including Final Doom) on some French website (i had to translate it to English) i never bought Doom and i never will. its like getting an old Nes game from Abandonware, nobody is making money from it, and its a digital copy, so why bother?

Deathclaw886 Well, you know someone now - pleased to meet you But i agree with your point. In fact, believe it or not, my very first copies of the registered versions of Doom iwads was via rutracker.orgBack then, i've downloaded a package containing almost all of the id tech1 iwads along with the doomsday engine. And i still have them on my old xp rig. *edit: lol, they still have the torrent available to this day

jval idk why Seductress implied that i was giving you "harsh feedback" along with the (content removed) dude - but just so you know that my question was genuine: Since you "say my name" *** I must answer: Never though of harsh feedback, and my answer was honest, with a little taste of humor. Or, maybe I could say as a salesman: "We have fancy rendering effects and low system requirements, which do you prefer?" Seriously now, a Celeron D is too low to handle any playable content in my source port with fancy effects. A Pentium 4 maybe at 640x400/800x600 could handle some effects but that's all. I know grau is using a Pentium 4 and runs some voxels with dynlights in DD. Anyway I'm sorry if you felt disappointed! ***

Yo, it's all good mr. white. I'm not sure what a pentium 4 is but it sounds like a dope car. Thanks for the info and shit. Bitch.

I got the entire classic Doom series for free via gift on Steam by Greyghost on Doomworld, there was a 75% discount and he decided to buy several gifts, and because I was 13 at the time I decided to jump on the offer because my parents refused to buy anything virtual online.

Though I already had Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 CD's, I did copy registered Doom v1.666 floppy disks off a guy in high school. I guess that's not really piracy since I already owned Ultimate. I probably just wanted to see older versions, because the v1.2 shareware really interested me, and probably load up older dehacked patches, watch older .lmps, etc.

Ever since I found Freedoom Classic version 0.1 earlier this year, I realized that this is the definitive version that the /dev/loopers intended all along. So basically if you're playing a WaReZ IWAD then you're doing it wrong and you should feel bad!

Every doom release i own except for the stuff from the community is pirated. I guess it depends on whether you feel remorse for it or not.
