some people are very poor and they dont have so many dollars. but if the creators of the games make some games so extremely expensive like 50 dollars or some thing then i get so extremely angry at them that i have to think about walking to the developer , with a copy that is pirated , and telling him that his game is shit and that i pirated to only make him angry because the price of the game is so extremely terrible , and i think if some one makes their games so extremely expensive then i would say if people pirate it , the creator of the game who made this extremely expensive price has really deserved this to happen to his game because prices like that are unacceptable and not very good. and also my dad has taken the doom files from his old pc and i had to take a usb stick to put it on my pc , and i had to install gzdoom but i dont know if this will count as pirating or not because my dad bought it but i didnt , but he did so i am playing a pirated version of it , but i didnt buy it so i really do not know that. but i think if some one pirates doom because he is very extremely poor and cant afford 5 dollars because everything else of his money has to be usefd for food anbd drinking and showering and stuff , then i would say , okay you can pirate it because every one needs to play some video games , and if they cant do that they would also feel extremely unhappy , and bored and depressed some times so i think if he really can not afford this then i would say , okay i will allow you to play this for free now.

yes exactly , i think that makes sense. i mean i remember the story where john romero said he stole some apple computers from some room and he dragged the computers into id software xdd and when the game was finished they put it back and then no one even noticed.

If you buy the game now your money's not going to the people who worked on it, it's going to some executives. I understand the desire to be above board with everything, and you're right that $5 isn't a whole lot of money, but I also can't be too upset at people who download or fileshare the IWADs. |

No. I just don’t condone piracy, only in cases where the game isn’t sold anymore and the company went under, for example. Even when you buy a game now, your money doesn’t go to the developers, project managers or testers or artists.. it goes to the shareholders. Only for very small, privately owned studios does your money go directly to the team. |

If I hadn't pirated DOOM ages ago, I might not have ever bought a DOOM shirt, DOOM 2016, Eternal, and various ports. If I hadn't pirated it, they wouldn't have ever gotten a dime from me.
The same logic can be applied to any digital media. If someone pirates something, they could potentially become a fan and spend money on something from that franchise/developer. If they don't pirate it, they'll probably just pass the franchise by and never spend any money on it.
I fully condone piracy.

i really cannot understand why i should pay for iwads to the people who have nothing to do with them. literally, nothing: they just took the game they didn't made, and now trying to sell it as their own.
i can see why there is a price tag on Hedon, for example (and if not a gog gift from a friend, i would stay with free Hedon demo; i mean, i wouldn't "pirate" it). but bethesda… nope. they're cheaters, they're trying to sell me the thing they didn't even made. they can sell their shiny new unity port if they want, but i absolutely believe that iwads should be free.
p.s.: i'm ok for beth taking money for NERVE, tho. it was a contractual work, it is a new content, so no problems here. it is still somewhat shady, but ok, it is at least something new.

i've never ever seen "a company" making anything. it's always the people. but i am ready to change my mind if somebody will show me the physical "company" entity. one i can talk with, and, you know, interact, without using people as proxies.

Doesn't matter. People made a company. As the company they made a game. The game is intellectual property of the company. The people made the choice to leave the company later on, relinquishing any connection with the game. It's very easy. If you give up "ownership" of the game then you don't "own" the game anymore.

If it's not an indie-studio, I'll just pirate the game. Indie-studio's have been releasing great games in the recent years and I like to support them. Capitalism baby, spend money on the organisations you support, steal from the ones you don't. Exactly how Marx envisioned it. And regarding big game developing companies I agree with ketmar, I dont consider stealing from non-conscious entity as a morally wrong thing, especially if those companies just disguse their casino's as games with lootboxes and pay their employees, the people who actually make the game, like shit. Or sexually harras their employees, fuck you activision blizzard. I know that is not really the case for ID (dunno about the payment part tho) and I respect them for not killing off a franchise I really love, but Hugo Martin seems like somebody who lives in San Francisco and likes to smell his own farts so fuck him. |
