So... I'd like to celebrate my birthday with a new release. tl;dr -- this is BAD. I've spent a month on this. Seriously. It's something like cyberspace, but it's not really anything in fact. This is the closest thing to a trollmap a map can be without actually being a trollmap. Playtested only without monsters. Brutal vanilla hacks which cause FAT slimetrails and might break. Intended for savescumming. "Sissy mode" implemented. Yeah, you heard that right. Play on HMP only; read the textfile. I wanted to crash the game in the end of the level, but I couldn't really get the behaviour I have intended, so I gave it up. Another idea I had was an optional Terry-trap, but I'll save that one for the future. No screenshots, because I care about your sanity AND I don't wanna boot it up again. Imagine a world where shitposting is the norm and normal posts are frowned upon. Kinda like DW's Blogs, but with bootyass and Bloodshedder mocking.

The first room reminded me of the ending to Saw V. Where Agent Strahm is slowly crushed to death between the walls. Only it happens from the ceiling in your map.
Got through the door, found your name on the floor. Telported to another room. Then got teleported back to the start, and died.
So yeah, it was shit.

Ahem alright, sorry I was being a rude dipshit earlier. For starters, happy birthday. I actually just had my birthday today too. Or tonight, rather. Midnight going into March 10th. So yeah, born the same day as Chuck Norris. Cool. I turned 21.
Was your birthday today as well? In any case, now I realize that there is supposed to be more to your map than a simple terry trap thing. I though that's all it was initially, considering the other WADS produced for booty ass fields. I'll give it another proper run through later.
Unless it's meant to be an annoying troll map. In which case, fuck.

Yeah, the map sucks and I know it... It's meant to be annoying and bad, but at the same time it can be viewed as a legit map that took some effort. Thanks for taking the time.

Its hard enough for some people to decide if they want to play something that's mediocre just to play something new. Is there anything you can tell me that might make this worth my time? I just cant see myself downloading something knowing that the level designer wasn't interested in making this fun for me or genuinely looking for advice so they can make better maps in the future.
Wouldn't it be nice if you tried to make a cool map and people told you it was awesome and asked if you could make more maps or help with their special projects? What do you have to gain from selling this as an intentionally bad troll map? There's enough garbage available to waste our lives on that people genuinely tried hard on.

You are right, of course. I did try hard. I really, genuinely, truly did, but I tried to make this map different from what I usually make, be it good or bad. I wanted to make a map whose main focus isn't detailing and polish, but... just the concept, or whatever. A black sheep. Hell, you don't waste a month making a low-memory effort trollmap.
If you can't see yourself downloading something that doesn't try to be the best, I'm OK with that, I do understand you, I probably wouldn't do that either. :]
It's just that I think that somewhere out there, there is someone who could legitimately enjoy something like this, not just me. Someone who's fed up with how "same-y" modern maps feel, or who'd like to try sth different for a change.
My gain from this: I've learned that you can mix stuff. That nobody prevents you from doing annoying, boring, unfair, awkward things. You can have 6 doors and make 5 of them a crusher. You can, really.
(Thanks for at least replying, I appreciate it. My next map is gonna be a legit great one, just wait. Give me a few months or so, you'll be amazed. :] )

Kills: 93% Items: 98% Secret: 85% Time: 33:54 Probably just above ten failed attempts or so. Regarding different mapping styles... If everything follows a formula it becomes boring no matter how polished or how well thought out it is because you know what to expect the moment you see it. If you've played one of them you've played them all. Making DooM maps is an art and not a science. With that said, I'm not sure I would say I exactly enjoy maps such as this one. There's a satisfaction (and relief!) when you finally beat them though. I normally don't save when playing and quit upon death. It's safe to say that such a mindset won't work here, but if you expect casualties and push forward it's pretty fun. The map isn't bad. It's evident that a lot of time went into making it. I felt as I was trapped in a machine of some diabolical origin. Not a good place to be, for a human. You can have 6 doors and make 5 of them a crusher. You can, really. Oh, I believe you. |
