I've been considering downgrading to a basic flipphone because there is too much shit to do on a phone. You don't instagram, snapchat, candy crush, angry birds, facebook, twitter, or any of that stuff?

Well, the older phones had longer phone battery, and because they are so simple and primitive in function, it makes them attractive (The phones of course). I myself would get one after all my bootleg smartphone shenanigans. Something is constantly wrong with my current phone, and my experience makes me wanna get the old Nokia 2033 (because I only use the phone to call and text), but those bitches are expensive (I reckon live altillery rounds are expensive like that), and in the end I dunno.
Relating to the original thread, I had spent a year once without a computer. During that time I read books, like, a lot. Try that?

Self control is important, yes.
I just get too frustrated with modern technology companies fucking with my stuff. I bought a PS4 a couple years ago and it's the worst piece of shit I ever spent money on. It has all the horrible shit you have to deal with as a PC user, and none of the perks of using a console. Everything you want to use needs to update once a month, and it only asks you to update at the time you want to use it. Every new game you want to play has an hour long installation process before you can play it, and I've never yet played a game that I wanted to play again. 95% of the games in the market are not games that my friends and I can play together in the same room. There's probably different settings and other stuff that give me more control over it but the UI is stupid, controlling it with a controller is stupid, and I don't care enough about all the cool new-age social media features to figure out how to optimize my experience. It shouldn't be a broken piece of shit out of the box.
Phones have the processing power to do everything a modern computer does, yet the interface inhibits my ability to do anything I actually use my computer for, like viewing maps, making textures, managing my files, and actually leaving my shit alone so I don't have to keep reconfiguring it over and over again. When I get bored all I can do is browse the web, post on forums, and maybe download files if I can remember to move them to my computer when I get a chance. I don't get to use my computer very often because of my real life obligations. When I do, I have to spend it doing the boring stuff before I can get to the stuff I actually want to do like play Doom and build maps, and there just isn't enough time for that.
Meanwhile everything is dying to rope you into assimilating to what they think you should want with distracting notifications about useless data and trying to guess at what I'm interested. "Hey we noticed you searched for Doom. You know what is just like Doom? ASSASSINS CREED! HERE'S A BUNCH OF GAMING NEWS ARTICLES YOU SHOULD READ. BY THE WAY, LOOK AT WHAT DONALD TRUMP TWEETED, AND WHAT KATIE PERRY HAS TO SAY ABOUT ANIMAL CRUELTY, AND THIS AWKWARD MOMENT THAT HAPPENED ON THE JIMMY KIMMEL SHOW, AND WHAT CONGRESS IS DOING ABOUT HEALTH CARE AND.." FUUUUUCK THE HELL OFF.
