I have to be honest, and I hate to say this, but I'm really not liking the way this looks so far... This whole "It's fucking DooM, enjoy it!! come on!!!" leaves a bad taste in my mouth, because YES, it IS fucking Doom, a series that broke new boundaries, led the genre into new ground and further defined and solidified the genre Id's Wolfenstein created, it was just overall a giant leap forward and made a giant fucking statement and is still played today! This one on the other hand just has so many design decisions that reek of merely catering to the new fps generation, everything about it seems "safe", from the load outs, to the color choices, to the choices of music, to the asinine taunt system for the Halo players who haven't gotten over teabagging enemy players yet (totally ruins the brutal atmosphere of a multiplayer session IMO), to the player speed, to the singleplayer being advertised as 12 hours (for a $60 game, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be half this, it always is) while the multiplayer gets an unholy and disproportionate amount of spotlight in comparison (even going as far as inviting CoD youtubers to do advertising for them), to the weak ssg + sg (because everyone knows that powerful shotguns = imbalanced!)... and every argument is dismissed with "It's (insert current year) dude" along with an adhominem attack by it's fanboys in which case it just begs me to say "I'd rather they just left it in the past if they're going to just trump over everything that separated Doom from modern shooters, and instead make a new shooter under a new moniker", but I guess deep down I know the Bethesda's answer relates to $$$. Everyone has their opinion (and this is just one from an cynical asshole ), but people seem to think defending one installment in the Doom franchise is the equivalent of defending DooM... it's not, and having the old door sound doesn't save it, and it's sad how this is actually brought up as an tribute, as if a reboot isn't already supposed to be a tribute in itself.

Welcome to the decline of Western(and perhaps elsewhere as well) civilization. Each new generation is dumber than the previous one, and each new crop of young gamers is more easily titillated by direct, simple appeals to the most base instincts and desires. Do you think a game like King's Quest, Monkey Island, or Maniac Mansion could possibly grab the average player's attention these days? No, because they involve intelligence and some serious thought and reasoning in order to work out methods of progress. It's the same with movies, music, art, politics, etc. To use the roller-coaster analogy, we have already made the slow ascent to the top, and are now in the process of a much quicker descent to the bottom. This happened to Rome once before. It's most likely the way things go. Civilizations rise to their apex, and then as people have more luxury time and no reason to really be educated or informed, they just lapse into laziness and apathy. Then the civilization will collapse, and the strong will endure while the weak perish, and then their descendants will create a new glorious culture which will become dominant, only to fall by its own hand.

It isn't perfect but I'm glad to have a new Doom game on the horizon. I enjoyed Doom 3, and I like a good amount of what I've seen of Doom 2016 so far. I agree with most of your points though deathevokation and those are legitimate issues but overall we won't know 100% how the game will be until we actually get our hands on it and play it.
As long as it is fun to play I will be satisfied. That's what matters most to me at the end of the day.

From what've seen so far I think it could be improved in some aspects, I mostly disapprove the art direction, it's not completely wrong but it's not perfect. What I like the most is that they've payed attention to little details and nailed them in some aspects.

I also agree that much of the artistic choices they've made sort of ruins an important aspect of the game. I hope that there will be some talented mod team out there that will make new skins and character models that look authentically like the original iterations. Or a better scenario, would be that Id does it themselves with DLC. Of course, it would have been ideal if they just made the game look more authentically Doom-like from the beginning.

Because by no means is this a terrible game.. and at the risk of sounding pretentious; I think I'd probably have an easier time enjoying it if Doom didn't represent a lot more to me than just being a masterpiece, in some areas they deliberately went out of their way to point a middle finger aimed at everything that represented professionalism (even in the game industry etc) at the time, and it went beyond being "edgy", while at the same time making a product that was a sincere labor of love, and maybe I'm being hard on a AAA company for behaving like a AAA company and playing everything "safe", etc.

I'll still most likely end up getting this game when it drops in price. I believe that eventually(as in 2-3 years) it will be available for under 10 bucks on sale, at which time I'll probably pick it up unless it is the worst game of all time, or unless Bethesda pulls a Beamdog.
