I'll probably regret starting this thread later, but I really wish I didn't autopilot on Youtube today and don't want to suffer alone. Seeing so many poorly presented and absolute shit arguments in one video that relied almost solely on emotion made my brain hurt.. especially that asinine emotionally manipulative piece of shit Hawaiian girl crying her fake crocodile tears while throwing out some non sequiter about her grandmother finally learning how to dance hula (who is putting a lot of effort into her costume btw, which obviously automatically means that you're not putting any effort into your costume!!) so someone wearing a cheap looking costume in America is an insult to her grandmother that will never see them wearing said "cheap" costume anyway because she's living in a different country... is guilt tripping on such a level and using an elderly family member as a weapon really fucking necessary? Speaking of a cheap badly done costume.. those cheap and shitty costumes with hideously low quality fabrics that get torn to shreds effortlessly are just as much an insult to Halloween as they are to Hawaiian culture.. you want white people to respect your culture while making broad sweeping statesments that denigrate Halloween which is part of their culture (in a country that they're the majority?), all while being in the same video of a disrespectful twat who uses terms like "dollar store" in a sweeping statement about Halloween? Fuck off. It just seems like the left have won every victory that has achieved equality (and in many cases, rightly so), but now when there's nothing left to do they still want continue being activists to stay relevant and hold power and because it feels good to be an activist.. but in the process they've become the regressive brownshirt wearing antifun buzzkills that were trying to shut down metal and gory horror movies in the 80's.. I hate how they've made race such a taboo subject yet can't stop LARPing about it, themselves. I probably sound like I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill, and if this was just an isolated example you'd be right.. but there's so many different niches and areas these people are starting to infest and in each case they become a burden and become the guy who on Monday would hear everyone talking about how fun a party was, and when he asks why he wasn't invited they'll pretend they forgot to invite him (they didn't). Anyway, before I keep going on... I want to hear other takes on this, I hope there's something left to discuss, haha.

I know a lot of semi-left leaning people who also think this idea is bullshit. Halloween is just for kids to have fun, these people are loud, annoying killjoys, but they're a minority. I wish people would stop giving them coverage honestly, anyone with half a brain knows the entire idea of "cultural appropriation" is dogshit, humanity as a whole progresses when we share ideas - keeping ideas, rights, humor and anything else segregated by skin colors or nationality goes against everything I stand for. Judging by the actual definition of 'liberal', the desire to restrict freedom of expression in this fashion is very NON-liberal. That's one thing that pisses me off, these idiots with very non-liberating ideas have essentially stolen the 'liberal' label.
The idea is LIBERATION. Not segregation and restriction. Those are the very antithesis of liberal. It pains me how the world is topsy-turvy D:

These progressive twenty somethings heard stories of their parents and grandparents participating in protests in the name of liberty (when real injustices were actually taking place) and want to feel like they are doing something equally important in their own generation. That's always been my take on this whole shitshow.

There's something telling in their facial expressions, body language, and the way they speak. The people in the video are not really offended. They're acting for an audition. I'm having trouble pinpointing what it is, but when this video was shot, I'm imagining the producers being really friendly towards these actresses to butter them up and get on their good side, and then just as they felt like friends, the producer kinda takes a turn in the conversation with something like
"I love having people like you here on the set. Do you like cappucinos?
Aubrey, get this young lady a cappucino!
We don't get a lot of cool people like you here on the show. I love your type.
Do you want to know a secret?
I can't stand most of the people we hire for these videos. You know what worst kind of people are? People who dress up like other cultures for halloween.
Take a look at these costumes, seriously, just look at how offensive this is!"
And then the actresses don't want to disagree with the producers because the fate of their future career and being on more videos lies in their hands. So they just kind of make up this story about their own culture and why this kind of garb affects them in an effort to keep rapport going with the producer. The conversation is shot, and then all the crappy parts are edited out to push this silly agenda.
I mean, I get it. Rebels are popular among teens. Teens like out-of-the-box thinkers, and they like people who are loud and motivated, which these SJW types are. So if you want to make a magazine called TeenVogue, these are the kind of people you want to appeal to. Especially since the ridiculousness of these controversial topics gets shared all across social media by both retards who believe it and the people like us who think it's dumb.
The internet just has too many people on it anymore. There's so much data being fed to us that no one could possibly take the time to fact check everything or read about stuff in the right context. People's addiction to the internet is being preyed upon. It's hard to read things while being mindful that it's being filtered in a certain way to provoke you to think in a certain way that enables you to trust certain corporations to be on your side. "We're your friends, and you're cool if you think more like us," etc. etc. You don't need credibility anymore. You need emotional appeal. You need humor. You need a fucking megaphone and a way to keep popping up in everyone's news feed.
I don't think there's a way to stop it at this point. The internet is kind of a giant mind control device that happens to allow people like us to communicate with each other so that we can feel like we're in control when we're really not. I think we, and these youtubers are the last line of defense against all this fuckery. It's eventually going to weed us all out and dominate everything we know and love about the internet.

Great reply, Doomkid. I dunno, when your entire class is yelling at you and saying it's your job as a professor to protect your students (from what I don't know... but I don't think protecting their feelings from getting hurt is ACTUALLY protecting, infact I think it's harmful) and calling for your resignation over an email that was "leaked" where you (not you specifally, but the profressor) decried a rule that forbids white students from dressing up as people from other cultures for halloween.. I'd say it's a lot more than a loud minority... the thing I've learned with subjects like these is that whatever has been considered extreme ten years ago has become become the norm in the present tense.. and every concession that's made to appease them is just used as a stepping stone to get themselves further in the door.. they'll never be "ah ok, well I'm happy with this lets keep it as it is". They've also just recently starting putting their foot into the cosplay hobby and many of them who are just starting out are starting to virtue signal and it looks like it's in the early "awareness" and "educational" stage and I'm willing to bet over time it's going to become more aggressive until it gets to the autistic screeching bit unless the inevitable pushback happens... and oh god I can't wait until they start targeting poor weebs like that shitty Chinese girl did. ;P You're right that it is anti liberal and it's why I've given up on that term entirely, so I just say "the left" because not only is it an insult to Liberalism but it looks like they're trying to hijack the term to kid themselves into thinking they're just normal everyday people who totally aren't a dogmatic and authoritarian cult who're fighting some demented culture war, at all!! All referring to anyone who opposes them to be Nazis... I probably should have been less vague instead of insulting the entire left, haha. My alignment philosophy of "live and let live", that you should be free to follow your pursuit of happiness as long as it doesn't impact other people negatively and should be able to express yourself freely are the things that are the most important to me and everything else is more or less secondary.. I'd long for a society run in a classical liberal style way over THIS, anyday..

God, I hate my generation.
My generation uses "fuck" like a comma as if it solidifies their point any further. They use it the same way edgy nu metal bands used it. "Oh, they're cursing. They must be very passionate about their stance."
Taking that into consideration...I think I'm going to try and use obscene language less now.

This is why conservatives laugh when liberals trot out their ivy-league diplomas as some sort of badge of honor, like the crisp rolled-up satin-bowtied piece of paper they got from some safe space shit-hole like Yale somehow wins every argument they're ever in for the rest of their lives. Look at all those morons in that video! They all got accepted, and will probably graduate, from YALE. Let that sink in.
I know much smarter and much WISER people that never spent a day in college. These useful idiots in this video are spending their best years learning to be sponges for communist Alinksy propaganda. I'm sure they'll have a blast at the Antifa rally, but seriously I hope they get their skulls cracked open by the riot cops.

I'm sure bike lock guy, the dude that wants all white people to be left to die in emergencies and giraffe dude who says "it's a pleasure to teach dead cops" are all fantastic professors... In a heated exchange; when a friend of mine tried to use "my professor said..." as evidence to demonize Trump supporters as violent I couldn't help but laugh it off, haha. I've yet to see any of the "welcome to Trump's America" hate crimes that were reported by civilians the day after the election be proven to be true.. so why on earth would I "listen and believe" to what a professor (who didn't provide any evidence, either) alleges? ;P If you want a citation to get an idea about what I'm talking about: www.fakehatecrimes.org/

I'm hella left, and I'm hella offended by these costumes. What the fuck do any of them have to do with halloween. Unless you're a toddler, pick something a bit more halloween or fall spirited. It annoys me to See non halloween costumes on adults, and I feel it pisses on the holiday. As for the costumes, other than the fact that they are extreamly lame "halloween" costumes, Their all just stereotypical representation similar to black facing, So I guess I kinda see where people are coming from, even if blown out of proportion in this video.

As for the costumes, other than the fact that they are extreamly lame "halloween" costumes, Their all just stereotypical representation similar to black facing, So I guess I kinda see where people are coming from, even if blown out of proportion in this video. I think Halloween, at least in America, has taken on properties that go well beyond its roots. I don't claim to fully understand the origins of Halloween, but as I understand it the pagan celebration included people dressing as or portraying spirits of the dead as a way to appease the actual spirits, possibly warding off ill fortune. Like most human traditions do, this holiday evolved over hundreds and hundreds and was passed on to many cultures, changing dramatically. I know as a kid we basically dressed up as people or things that we liked or wanted to be like(as a kid I went as Superman, He-Man, Darth Vader, Skeletor, etc.). So to say that something is a "non-Halloween costume" seems a bit ridiculous, because who are you to say what is and isn't appropriate for someone else to choose on a holiday with no clear-cut or defined rules. Let's suppose I think that native Americans were cool, with their war paint and mohawks and dangly earrings. I've learned the history of their plight in America, their deeds and their mythos, and I think it's all pretty rad. So I dress up as an Indian for Halloween in honor of them. Some dickhead millenial will inevitably shout "Cultural appropriation!" and "Racist!" upon seeing my outfit, but the spirit of the attire was to celebrate my appreciation of Native Americans, not to mock them. But since I'm evil whitey, anything I wear besides neatly pressed khakis, a sweater tied at the neck, and boat shoes is considered appropriating someone else's culture, and we certainly can't have that. Funny how you don't hear about conservative/libertarian white people whining if some black guy dresses in a nice suit and Allen Edmonds dress shoes. You don't hear them scream, "He's appropriating our culture, Bob! Why can't he just wear a straw skirt, bone necklace, and carry a spear like the rest of his kind!" The whole thing is hilarious to me because these costumes are only going to become more and more humorous due to their innate ability to trigger millenials and libtards. If no one gave a shit and just didn't give people wearing these costumes any attention, positive or negative, then no one would buy or wear them. But since they have the magical power to auto-offend snowflakes, I'm considering dressing up in one of these fine pieces of outerwear next Halloween myself.

It sucks having to watch what you say or worrying about what others would think. But then I remember that it’s just fear.

Damn, Japanese Halloweens look like so much fun and everyone looks so happy.. I wonder if the anti fun millennial regressive brownshirts not being there to spread "awareness" and "education" might have something to do with that.

I get what you're saying. I jumped the gun a little bit by going straight after the acting and the motivations of the company providing it, instead of empathizing with the people it's supposed to represent. I too find those costumes in pretty bad taste, but I've also never personally seen these costumes on anyone in real life. And if I did, I doubt the person wearing it would be smart enough to justufy their reasoning for it. They don't look like costumes anyone with a clean concscience would want to wear. My interpretation of this video is what I find most disagreeable about it, which is a message that says "If you want to hurt me, this is how you do it."

They chose shitty low quality half assed drab looking costumes because it suited their bias to make them look ugly and soulless (and easy to tear).. the idea that you have to justify wearing a costume and answer to someone on a celebration like Halloween is just pretentious, imo.. would you ask someone to justify dressing up as a skeleton? That said, often people do dress up to show appreciation to things they enjoy or cultures they study and get passionate about, we're all individual creatures and to assume the worst in someone and automatically come to the conclusion they're dressing up in something as a statement of disrespect or from a position of indifference towards said culture is asinine and says a lot about the person who makes said assumption.. and well, I'd love to see people dress up as stereotypical Boers but I guess that's just me.

Here's an interesting thought provoking question that I'm not yet sure I have an answer for:
What is there not to like about people exposing their vulnerabilities?
On a case-by-case basis, confiding with people about something you're uncomfortable with is a pretty noble thing to do. But the current of the internet shows that people are being persuaded to be up front about things they are directly emotionally affected by. Worse, it's on the internet; a public place where you are being observed by friends, unbiased strangers, and potential enemies. They leave themselves open to very personal and direct attacks from the latter. Although I find that most of the world is populated with more good people than bad, I don't think I'm being outlandish by saying that most of the world doesn't care about the average individual person. This doesn't make them a shithead. There's only so much attention one can distribute, and if you're a normal person, you save it for your immediate friends and family whom you are very close to. Compared to being a warm and thoughtful companion, being an apathetic shitbag to strangers in an overpopulated world is just... easier...?
With that said, I think people that reveal the things they are offended about are more likely to scream louder when they are hurt, and it's difficult for me to empathize with people who are stepping out naked in the middle of a battlefield, when it's smarter to armor up and disclose that type of information with whom you can trust it with.

I simply find it unwise to wear all your emotions and vulnerabilities on your sleeve as so so many do these days. It opens the door for a host of anonymous dickheads who are simply trolls to dogpile onto all of your weak spots that you oh-so-stupidly exposed to the world. It gives trolls exactly what they want: a rise, and in some cases an emotional breakdown. Is it horrible that some people out there genuinely enjoy doing this to others? of course, but let's not pretend half the blame isn't on the idiot who left themselves wide open in a public, anonymous area. That's sticking your hand into a hornet's nest then being "shocked and appalled" that you got stung.
To be clear, exposing/discussing your emotional vulnerabilities in closed circles/among close friends is a totally different story, everyone should have people to confide in. I just don't like this goal that some people seem to have, the goal of making the entire goddamn internet a safe circle to discuss delicate/vulnerable stuff in. It's nonsensical, if you post about this shit in a public area that thousands have access to you shouldn't be shocked when some reactions are negative, vitriolic, etc and indeed the people who reply to it with negativity or vitriol should unquestionably have the right to do so in a public discussion area. If people want closed circles where only certain opinions are allowed, posting to "all of twitter", "all of youtube" or "all of facebook" or whatever is a blatantly retarded idea. Posting publicly like that is only a good idea if you're actually willing to have a discussion and have your ideas challenged. (any good idea can stand up to scrutiny, it should be noted.) If dissent upsets you, post to a smaller network, sub-site etc designed for this kind of talk. There are plenty out there. The whole net doesn't need to be one though!
In some cases this mentality leads to calls for censorship of ideas because "see, look how bad it hurts people's feelings!" but that shit is just dumb. Sure, a private owner of a private institution should be able to enforce whatever rules they want on their platform, but i mean when you get to the point where you have hundreds of millions of users.. It's a communications platform at that point and censoring certain ideas, words or anything else just sets a dangerous precedent, in my opinion. I feel like the big 3-4 social media platforms that dominate the entirety of the internet being able to pick and choose what ideas are allowed through is dangerous, to be blunt.
The best way to prevent people from buying into "bad" ideas, "bad" ideologies, etc. is to expose them to them so they can see why these things are bad and generally come to their own conclusions and ideas when presented with as much info as they want, uncensored. Homogeny of information and thus homogeny of thought seems to be the goal some have but to me, that sounds like a total goddamn dystopia. People who opt to stick their heads in the sand rather than facing up to the unfortunate realities are doing themselves a great disservice in my opinion as they are weakening themselves on an emotional level. The world, rights, society, etc should not bend for such people as their inability to handle dissent should not be grounds to outlaw, hide or censor those dissenting ideas. That spits directly in the face of concepts of freedom and general western values. People should not be barred from discussing certain things because it might upset some readers - the onus is on the reader to stop reading, or if they feel it necessary, provide counter points. Simply silencing the idea altogether though... Nope. Not healthy, not freedom, not good.

Is it horrible that some people out there genuinely enjoy doing this to others? of course, but let's not pretend half the blame isn't on the idiot who left themselves wide open in a public, anonymous area. Let's take this a step further, let's say that it's someone's agenda -- I don't know who, this is a hypothetical question -- but let's say that it's someone's progressive agenda to push people to reveal their vulnerabilities as a means of attracting trolls/bullies so they can then be outed in the same public sphere? Bullying, of course, is a known problem with different degrees of severity. Perhaps this trend is meant to be the people's answer to bullying. They're using their own vulnerabilities for double trolling trolls into exposing themselves in what people have claimed as the safe space domain. The trolls then suffer some sort of embarrassment that may prevent them from trolling/bullying in the future. I kinda see the logic in that, but I'm sure there are some holes in it that I'm overlooking.

I've got a buddy who's native American...but he doesn't look it at all.
I really wish he would dress up with a feather on his head and a hatchet or something with warpaint some halloween so that if anyone accuses him of being racist or something, he could throw it in their idiotic faces that he actually is native American. He agrees it would be hilarious, but he doesn't care about peoples' opinions enough to go through with it, and I gotta respect that.
