Back in the days of the primordial ooze when I first played Doom, I always had the feeling of wanting to get to those mountains in the skybox somehow. Standing in the outside area in your shot made me feel like I had accessed a part of the game that wasn’t supposed to be reached. Young and dumb feelings were pure, yo.

I always liked that little tunnel entrance. Especially how it uses a different color and protrudes from the surrounding walls. I've been working that type of thing in my maps, where openings and hallways and door frames have a protruding part, or have a differently colored border around it, or lights or support beams around it. It's kinda simple and most people don't consciously notice it enough to point it out, but it makes it very easy for new players to see where they are supposed to go. Speaking of those mountains, I remember playing Doom when I was real young, using all the cheat codes -- IDDQD, IDKFA, IDSPISPOPD, etc. On E1M2, I'd go outside where the chaingun and soulsphere is, and get on the top layer of the surrounding borders and fire rockets out into the mountains. I later discovered that they dissappear when they collide with the skybox, but under the low pixelated resolution, I actually thought the rocket was soaring all the way off the map and will eventually hit the mountains.

Haha this was so me, too!
