I bet a lot of people didn't really think Cyberdemon has longer pain duration than most Doom monsters. Most Doom monsters have a pain duration of either 4 or 6 tics. Cyberdemon has a pain duration of 10 tics, tied with Arch-Vile and Revenant, who have 10 tics too but they use 2 frames, while Cyberdemon's pain is 1 long frame of entire 10 tics. Spiderdemon has no more than 6 tics of pain, he is like a normal monster in that regard. The longest pain duration award among monsters depicted in cast sequence goes to Pain Elemental (12 tics), although it is tied with Keen and below a Boss Brain, whose pain duration is 36 tics.

Looks like Hell Nobles (Hell Knight and Baron of Hell) and Demons (Pinkies and Spectres) have the shortest pain duration of 4 in game, and 6 is the pain duration of everybody else I didn't mention above. Makes sense, as Hell Nobles are basically glorified Demons with added projectile attack for side-kick, while melee is their true area of excellence. They also share some art with Demons - someone on Doomworld spotted there is a whole load of pixels (their spine) shared on the back of these two monster types.

Still, Cyberdemon's pain is long and he is an odd guy having only 1 frame to use for it, where everybody else, besides Boss Brain, uses 2.

Before writing this post, i had to ask myself if I was seriously just being salty because I saw the words "UAC Ultra MAP07" in the ending backdrop, and if no, (which it was at first) go for a walk, then do some other activity for an hour, and see if my answer changes. And it hasn't.

I honestly didnt make any of UAC Ultra MAP07, Jamie made that map, and its definitely a dead simple for sure. The only thing I see in that map that I dont think aged very well imo was my sprite artwork for the new monster. I think it kinda pulls the map down a notch. But I dont really feel any personal ownership of it and its a fine map. While I'm not very fond of dead simples, I cant blame megawad mappers not to use the hard coded map effects in the only mapslot theyre allowed to use it in. And outside of using dehacked to tie the code pointers to some other action, (the mancubian candidate in Valiant is probably about as good as its gonna get) you dont get much flexibility in how you use it. Its available to them to use so what the fuck?

I'm not sure I even ever personally made a dead simple clone in any map07 mapslot I ever mapped for. The reason DBPs havent been using them on the ones that exceed MAP07 is that the project format doesnt really let us get into who gets what mapslot ahead of time

For that reason, even without any personal attraction to dead simple clones, the joke is pretty mean spirited I think.

I really liked that joke, I had to beat the first map to understand what's going on.
My favorite maps are Essel's (iirc) and MAP30, you guys gotta play these two at least.

I got (finally) a book on bike maintenance intending to become my own mechanic and now I know what to look for I was completely wrong about my dad not using the bike much when it was his, and all the dirt etc. being from a long period in storage... instead he'd been thrashing the fuckin thing! He'd never mentioned this to me even once, I was honestly pretty surprised when he offered to give me his bike that I never knew he had.
Anyway getting this shit cleaned up and running smoothly is gonna be a bigger job than I thought it would be. I was also annoyed to discover that bike maintenance requires a lot of specialty tools for stuff that could probably be handled using standard or hex bolts (like eg. taking off your chainring aka the front gear wheel -- according to the book old school single gear bikes don't require a lot of fancy tools so I'm guessing older geared bikes didn't either), but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised given the manufacturers can make the tools themselves and make extra dosh. Also bike grease is way too expensive for what it is and according to the book automotive grease is 'not really suitable', I'm guessing because of the different temperature requirements of cars and bikes.

I actually did that challenge for a few days relatively recently. I fucked up at work big time and felt like I deserved some kind of punishment for that, so I decided to stop listening to music for a while. I certainly felt like I had more time to think about my thoughts (lol) during that time. It's an interesting experiment, can recommend.
