Since the last thread was an unholy abomination of people posting full albums as well as video games I thought it'd be good to start fresh. :)

I'm going to start off with Phantom Brave; a hidden gem of a game featuring a charming story, entertaining turn based gameplay where you have up to ten characters active at once and can pick up enemies and use them as clubs to hit other enemies off the map haha.. and more importantly, imo THE BESTEST usage of violins I've ever heard in a game! Everything is composed by Tempei Sato (he's done a damn great job with the Disgaea's series as well).. there's a lot of variety in the soundtrack here and each song is designed to hit different chords and succeeds in doing so.. I really recommend you don't judge a book by it's color and play this game, it'd make you a better person. If you don't play it, then atleast listen to some of the songs. They really do deserve to be heard! :)
The amount of emotion oozing in "The Sorrowful You" is unreal, it was especially effective when the only time it was used was to introduce a side of a tragic "rival" character's past and the despair that he was keeping to himself.
Upbeat and energetic track that's masterfully composed, has a sense of class but without becoming pretentious in doing so.. full of tempo changes and has a ton of hooks in it without losing it's drive, overall really fun to listen to, even outside the game!
Awesome music for fighting against an unbalanced boss. :-)
Awesome music for fighting against an even more unbalanced boss. :-)
One thing I love about Nippon games is that every character has their own soundtrack and as cheesy as it might sound on paper, it works out perfectly (it's only something I noticed after playing multiple games by them).. this one in particular has the perfect amount of sleaziness for a long haired rival character that abuses alcohol and always wears a trench coat and has his hands in his pockets. :P
As the story gets darker the soundtrack follows (captain obvious here)
Epic stuff!!!
extra credit
Although I've beaten the game you have an extra mode where you take your party down randomly generated dungeons and can level each character up to lvl 9999 and deal up to 10 million damage, heh.

^ Good post. We have really similar taste in music, it seems.
Anyways... this song. This song right here. This is one of the earliest, dearest memories I have. I started playing Runescape when I was eight years old back in 2004, and every time I hear this song I actually kinda tear up a little. Yes, that's how much of a little bitch I am. This is the first song you hear when you join the game, and learn how to play on Tutorial Island. So many memories. Ugh.
I just love the way Runescape MIDI music is crafted. There's a certain elegant beauty and innocence to it. And it's so relaxing. Sometimes I will listen to Runescape music for hours on end. Ahh... but I'm not the only one. You know that feeling right? That feeling when you hear/see something that immediately makes you feel like a little kid again? It's just completely magical and one of the absolute best things ever. But it's kind of sad also. It's like... where does the time go? Sigh, I dunno. =c
Look at the comments on these videos. It's full of people reminiscing about their childhood. Not just for Runescape, but for other game music songs too. I've seen the same thing for Super Smash Bros, Metroid, etc. It's kind of amazing what an effect games can have on us. You never forget it. And unless you're there to experience what someone else has, you won't quite understand why they're so emotionally attached to something. I guess the same thing can be said for anime, TV shows, etc. Anything really. What seems silly to one person, can be the most amazing thing ever to someone else.
I saw a comment that said "A moment of silence for everyone who logged off and never returned"
And holy shit, did that ever hit me hard. It's so true though. Reminds me of Doomworld too, all those people who just disappear and never come back. But are still missed! I had so many friends on this game that never play anymore. It sucks, but that's life.
Anyway, I've always really loved this one too. Has a creepy Castlevania vibe to it.
Also, this track! This plays once you enter the wilderness, where you can kill other players.
