I always find that there simply arent enough hours in a day. When I get carried away with all the other activities and obligations I have to handle in my every day life, I rarely set aside enough hours to really sit back, have a cup of tea and just play the damn game.
Doom is amazing in so many ways but apart from tinkering with modding features, gazing at screenshots, experimenting with mapping, and most of all, reading and posting on Doom related forums, I feel like I'm not doing my part to help kill all these monsters that people keep putting their maps.
These monsters are bad and we need to stop them! Do you ever feel like you're not really pitching in your fair share of fighting off the demon invasion? 8-|

I mostly just map and admire so definitely not! Ever since I was a kid I still have spent much more time in Doom idcleving/nextmapping through many wads just to listen to the music and noclip around to enjoy the scenery. When a cool megawad comes out if it really catches my attention I typically only play the first few maps unless I decide to dedicate myself, but even then I pretty much never get past the 20th map mark.

The only time I’ve played in the last 6 months was a few days ago when I gave The Shores of Russia a whirl. It was very satisfying and left me with good thoughts so I would say that I play enough Doom.

And once I have that set up, how do I find people to play with/against? I'm literally clueless. I have pretty much played single-player Doom exclusively for 23 years. Help a brother out. |

Go to the Kid’s site Doomshack. There is a tutorial and chat room that has Kid in it to help you get up and running. |

Ok Doomkid, I just installed Zandronum and something called Doomseeker, so let's set something up in the next few days perhaps. Everyone in this thread is welcome as far as I'm concerned.

Sounds like fun. what time are we looking at? I operate on Melbourne time. I'm thinking some time Saturday after 3pm here could be a goer. That's GMT +11 hours, which would be Friday/Saturday midnight on the US east coast, 5am London, 7am Moscow. Or what other times suit others interested?

DN: Every time I mention Zandronum, someone else will tell me about ZDaemon. I guess I'll try ZDaemon as well, maybe the games there are different. One thing I imagine is that Brutal Doom and that other thing called Complex Doom may be incompatible with ZDaemon, so hopefully more pure wads will be there. Do you prefer your online without mods or are the ones being used not to your liking? I prefer slaughter maps so hard that coop or survival mode is necessary. But I want it to be made of the same monsters and weapons (or if there are new stuff, let them be additive, not replacements). A good example, even if just a compilation, is Chillax. |

I play zdaemon occassionally. It will suit your need for idelogically pure wads.

Yeah, ZDaemon is a lot more oldschool, which is why I pretty much always use it for multiplayer. There are tons of servers with classic settings. Most ZDaemon players are interested in Doom itself, not in its crazy modifications. I also feel like the playerbase there is overall more mature and it is somewhat removed from the modern internet culture (dumb memes and stuff). That's a big plus for me!

Anyway someone make a server this weekend and post the details here of the server with either Zandronum or Zdaemon because I have neither installed and I'll just install the one that is being used :y Don't need consent for dooming  |

Zandronum is better software overall, but Memfis is right on the money - You're still going to get a much more pure version of DOOM over on ZDaemon. Also less annoying memes and trolls and all that garbage. You can play a classic Doomy server on Zandronum, but pretty much on the Doomshack servers only, everything else has no less that 10 mods loaded at any time it seems. I have both installed since I'm a server admin and all that, plus it's good to just have the variety (and double the number of players to face against) but as long as we all have ZDaemon, we'll be set for a group Doom session this weekend. How does Friday Night for you USA people / Saturday Morning 10-11 AM ish for us Aussies? That would be like 7-8 PM East Coast for the USA. Might be a shit time for DN and Memfis though. Let me know what works for you guys but I'm always around then. (If this is too early or too late for any of you I'm open, just trying to find something semi-reasonable for the lot) Here's a direct link to the ZDaemon installer: downloads.zdaemon.org/zdaemon110b08-setup.exeIf you guys still have trouble, let me know and I'll mirror it direct from doomshack. printz : I host a 3-life Chillax Survival server on both ZDaemon and Zandronum.
