Grand Theft Auto 2 is a fast paced top-down view game where you can use weapons, explosives and stolen cars to cause untold amounts of destruction. You can wage wars with gangs, and get chased by hilariously agressive police. It's a fun enough chaos simulator to play on your own, but there's a little known multiplayer feature that allows you to connect with other players and hunt each other down in the open-world cities with hilariously fast vehicles, overpowered weapons, and sometimes with the assistance of clunky physics.
I've never had the privilege of running a successful multiplayer game of GTA2. Last time I checked, which was about a year ago the community was thin trickle of players from various asian and european countries and it was difficult to get a game running smoothly, due to it's lousy netcode. If there's any latency, the game slows and sometimes freezes until the packets are sent. That makes the positions of the objects and players exact and never interpolated, but it also makes the game run in slow motion bullet time with anything other than the fastest possible connection. There aren't any hints that suggest that Rockstar will answer any of the petitions to release GTA 2's source code, so the development of source ports and a fruitful modding community is pretty unlikely at this point.
But goddamnit this looks like a lot of fun.
