This is a website that recently became my favorite thing ever.
nextdoor.com is basically facebook, except instead of picking your own friends, all your friends are neighbors within some distance from your home. Its supposed to be a good place to advertise your garage sale, report a missing pet, request a baby sitter, organize a block party, get local advice and more.
What's great about it is that it's almost entirely inhabited by 60-something year olds who don't know how to social media. So each day I browse, I get to observe the chaos of strangers who don't know how to talk to one another. I live in a town that's neighboring a notoriously sketchy neighborhood. Here's a preview of the lunacy that ensues:
- Debates with self appointed "mediums" and "gypsies" about haunted properties or ghost sightings in the neighborhood
- Plots to thwart the owner of the local trash service who is connected with the Mafia
- Why are the indian people buying up all the housing around here?
- 58, divorced, single, looking for love. hmu 267-xxx-xxxx
- HELP NEED APARTMENT FAST, NO COCKROACHES PLEASE
- "Hey is anyone missing a cat?" [picture of dead cat]

HA! I browse this site all the time and have turned more than a few threads upside down. It is fucking brilliant.
