I haven't watched the show yet but I have some friends that I've known and loved for a very long time to say the show is awesome and I need to watch it. I'm afraid if I watch the video linked in the OP it will compromise my neutral expectations.

Except even a thread title and a quote can serve as commentary. I kept it vague intentionally because I feel a lengthy rant would take the impact away from what lies ahead.. that and I want to insert myself and soapbox as little as possible until there's more responses. tldr; just watch it, bitch.  |

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. I see what you did there. |

Indeed, a lengthy rant would lessen the impact, but when you post a thread that contains zero of your own content, it's like we're not even receiving this from you. It would be much more interesting to us that you soapbox than to just anonymously drop off some media and have us figure out what to do with it. It makes sense if you want to post it for context about what you want to say, but we care most importantly about your commentary and it's not here! |

It's a pretty big turn off at this point. I'm sure the show is fine but once again you have a legion of internet nutsacks with no identity of their own ruining it for everyone.

Fuck yeah, don't forget Metallica. And I absolutely love Metallica...but their fanbase is equally annoying and mostly comprised of 40 somethings who act like they are still king of the frathouse. Most "superfans" tend to annoy me. Sports superfans especially. |

Fans of anything suck a giant dick when they also happen to be a drooling fucking retard. I love the shit outta Rick and Morty but don't really care to talk about it that much and definitely don't see it as a reason to jump on a fucking counter at McDonalds. I'd wager someone dumb enough to do that shit just needs any excuse, and since it's popular right now, Rick and Morty is that excuse. Similar shit was being blamed on Beavis and Butthead in it's day. Morons gonna moron regardless of what show they like or what's popular or whatever else. If you want to know about a piece of media - a game, a show, a movie - ignore the fanbase like the fucking plague and just experience it for yourself, unbastardized.
Being a fan of Rick and Morty (or anything at all, ever) and being an obnoxious waste of oxygen are not mutually exclusive.
Side note, if I was a manager or employee at a fast food restaurant and someone came in and started jumping on the counter, it would take every fiber of my being to resist the urge to push them off..

Hell, I would grab them, pull them off, have an employee call the police, and hold them until the police arrived. The guy was climbing over the counter and was unpredictable. How am I supposed to determine whether or not he is a threat to my life? Wait until he is about to end it?
