Doomworld is in such denial about eternity, literally nobody outside of the cool clique from there uses it, let alone maps for it, and nobody ever will either. After Risen3D it's by far the most redundant out of the big ports.

Even that damn new vavoom thing sees more mapsets made for it lmao

This is the same site that can send you this as a warning :  Double standard much? I know Pagb derailed the thread to talk about how he doesn't like EE regarding its performance, but man, what an overreaction; to just give the split thread such a psychotic title, when in the next reply Pagb gives further detail as to why he has his gripes, while not really being a dick to anyone, just saying he doesn't like EE, but no, apparently disliking anything is rude, simply because it's negative, which isn't mutually exclusive to assholery. |

I wish you could see which moderator did what. I have a feeling that some of them are a lot more adequate than others, but since nothing is ever revealed to the public I just see an abstract global consciousness of some kind, an entity that constantly contradicts itself and makes me doubt its sanity.

Fraggle gave me that warning for being mean to a newbie mapper, he made it clear in a thread because of dogpiling that the author was receiving, I understand the warning and respect the upfront-ness of that situation.

They all have a vested interest in protecting and promoting the Eternity Engine. This is because Quasar and Fraggle(both mods last I checked) maintain it, and also because a certain chap named Michael who now calls himself Sarah even though every cell in his body still has male DNA made an admittably awesome level specifically for Eternity. |

After Risen3D it's by far the most redundant out of the big ports. I don't think it's a redundant port and it has, or at least it should have, its place in mapping. If you look at umapinfo and the discussion around it you can see that there's an interest to have a middle ground between the realm of vanilla/rl/boom and g/zdoom, and Eternity fits to fill that role. You can summarize it as an expansion of boom. Now that one of the most popular mappers ever made a wad for it (I still have to play it but I plan to try it soon) I guess we'll see more people getting an interest for Eternity and who knows maybe others will actually make something for it. |

That's quite a pointless question. It's like asking if it's worth to mod for gzdoom when you can just move to modern engines instead of bloating with features something that it's outdated and nearly 30 years old.

There is EDGE port, so Gzdoom and Zandronum are certainly not the only "advanced" port options. Map format is normal limit removing. Edge-specific stuff like 3d floors, slopes etc. are just new sector/line types so its easy to map for too. And just editing a text file you can invent your own types: its powerful stuff. It was one of the first ports to have room-over-room 3d floors, a few years before zdoom got them. I had assisted Lobo in writing a DoomBuilderX script that converts all doors in a level from regular doom doors into sliding ones (see doomer.boards.net/thread/1875/help-doombuilder thread). I was surprised that a sliding door in Edge can be defined via a single linedef with a custom action - you can implement linedefs actions via an external file that is then loaded alongside a wad and thus sliding doors can be done easily without the need to mess with polyobjects. So, for example, a benefit of EDGE over Gzdoom would be simplicity and speed of doing certain 3D things from mapper's perspective, even if it might not be powerful (didn't actually check) and not compatible. Eternity might have its benefits as well, one of them is that is derived from Boom source and thus has physics more closely matching Boom/classic Doom, whereas Zdoom physics were different from the beginning, as it wasn't based on Doom's GPL-licensed source code. |

Don't think we really need "one source port to rule them all". You can have 5 different .exe, the file sizes aren't going to break the bank.

As VigilantDoomer explained very well, the best thing about EDGE is that you can get a lot of the cool effects like slopes, 3d floor over floor, horizontal sliding doors, swimmable deep water etc. Without having to mess with the (imho) kinda overwhelming UDMF format.
Sort of like a middle ground between Boom and GZDoom.
We have a guy doing a map for Wanted that never did anything outside of Doom in Doom format, and in a day or two he was doing 3d floors and swimmable water in his map.

I can relate to the situation you were describing in the post, most of the people I know irl cringe on people who don't go with the majority and thus nearly everyone is pretty much the same. My parents treat introvercy like it's a disease and heavily discourage it, and I probably will be forced to marry against my will in the future. Some people go to the internet to get away from them, not to see the same irl bullshit about people echoing the same thing and excluding those who don't. |

I have finally seen posts where Nine Inch Heels's opinion was obviously not correct, although that was 4-5 years ago from now. good-old, I'm an atheist, too. But the thing is I'm still legally a Muslim, because the way the social normal works, I don't expect to be in a good condition if I declare myself an atheist.
