It got rightfully shutdown because

A: it marketed itself as a new game, a remake actually.

B: You could play Doom without the IWADs (and I mean Doom, not like FreeDoom but actual id Software Doom)

C (?): Allegedly the dumbass tried to sell it in eastern Europe, don't really know about that.

Yeah that was a good and interesting thread; what a shame that it too had to go.

IMO Post Hell (besides being too fabulous for a modern forum system perhaps) isn't around anymore because it's PROBLEMATIC and maybe that'll turn away some of those mainstream gamer article writers that share Doom mods or something. You know, because no fun is allowed unless it's to poke at someone seemingly no one's willing to defend and all political opinions must be silenced. That or the mysterious owners that Doomworld is under wouldn't allow it either. Does Doomworld even have a page for their forum rules anymore? Eh. 40oz may have wanted to shut down "problematic" threads here too but he retired (and got friggin' crucified by DW) too early for that I guess, God bless 'im.

Such bad advice. Twitter is an amazing platform to be informed about current events if you know what youre doing and use it correctly.

1. Social media is social media. And social media is terrible. But its better than being uninformed. It is a platform to share fleeting thoughts and current events. None of what you read is required to be correct, accurate, in good taste, or based on facts. Go forth with the same kind of mentality that goes into playing Doom knowing its not training you for going to war with Hell. (but it's still better than panic buying toilet paper.)

2. Prepare for ugly things. The world is not as nice as anyone will have you think. Theres a lot of fucked up people, theres a lot of people who look like theyre doing good for the world who are actually fucked up, and theres a lot of fucked up people who think fucked up people are doing good for the world. Theres no good answer to be able to distinguish who is fucked up or not, but I can give you some ideas on how to help you decide on that for yourself.

3. Follow people/accounts/pages that resemble things you like, AND things that diametrically oppose the things you like. Social media platforms algorithmically try to send you things that fit your interests. Remind yourself to go against the current to find stuff opposite of what you like to compare so you can get an accurate assessment of its impact on the world. If you discover something you had to search for that wasnt arbitrarily dumped into your general feed, thats a good sign. Unfortunately, fact basically means nothing anymore and being able to compare opposite takes of the same current events in the same topic and deciding which one works for you is the best you can do to have a worldly view of it at this time.

4. Prepare to have your mind changed. There is and always will be a lot of bullshit out there, but learn from your reactions whether something is bullshit because you know it's wrong, or if the truth makes you uncomfortable. The idea that you have always known whats right will be shaken. You will have to accept that sometimes the philosophies youve been preaching for decades could have been totally fucking wrong and potentially dangerous. You have to be willing to unlearn bad ideas to accept that you have been wrong before and have believed or said some really stupid stuff in the past. The sooner you can remain in a state of learning and adapt to changing information, the better off the trajectory of the world will be.

5. People are just as capable of manipulation as anyone else, so being informed about current events, comparing sources, will keep you ahead. It is a lot of work, mentally exhausting, and emotionally draining. Like eating food, you have to take breaks from gorging yourself to safely digest what youve consumed. so know when to take breaks. Keep your social media feed fresh by frequently following new people and unfollowing others that are unreliable for new and useful information. A stagnant feed is prone to misinformation. Its a lot of work in an age where the internet is just a giant worldwide dumping ground for data of questionable use. It's exhausting, causes a lot of heartache, can end friendships, and ruins traditions for you, but thats what it takes to be ahead of the era of fake news.

My understanding in using social media in this way is still a work in progress and this advice could likely be bonk in a few weeks as technology advances, but too many of my friends and family use social media the casual way, which is to simply follow stuff that resembles their interests and only their interests, which gives a very narrow view of the world.

I really wish platforms like facebook/Twitter/youtube had a feature where you could get a quick look at what a users daily social media feeds look like. That way it could be very telling to why they do and say and think the way that they do. Unfortunately we have to take what they say at face value and decide for ourselves whether theres a puppetmaster pulling their strings.

I like the idea of subscribing to people with diametrically opposing views. Now I wonder if there are any services on the internet that try to give you the worst recommendations possible. Like you give it a list of bands you love and it recommends you artists who have absolutely nothing in common with them. Or if you're American it shows you irrelevant news from Zambia and Laos.

Reminds me of my own first map a lot LMAO.

I remember posting it on /idgames thinking it was the best thing ever and getting 0 stars a week later, from that dude Zalewa no less. I was kinda really put down by that. I felt like a winner when zalewa gave me like 3 or 4 stars a few months later though.
That was over four years ago, my god...


I had a craving to make a map, downloaded that latest DBP resource pack and couldn't kill the monsters in the demo map. I'm way too old for doom on skills above ITYTD at this point.
