donations. I think there's a very safe and fair way to get money from people who are willing to pay without putting barriers in front of people like you too. This is by far the best option to gain something from contributing to the community of a game without doing precisely what you mentioned. |

I was showing a coworker some maps I made recently and they were amazed. They asked me what the fuck I'm even doing here in this office. They told me I should check out this freelance work website called Fiverr. It's becoming pretty mainstream for people to make viable living or sidejob doing things they have the time and ability to do but isn't being applied in their normal line of work. This is exactly me. People who want to play my stuff for free are still very near and dear to me, so I'd make sure people like you still have access to my stuff. But with microtransactions / donations / and monthly payments becoming more mainstream, I think there's a very safe and fair way to get money from people who are willing to pay without putting barriers in front of people like you too.

I just make maps as a form of artistic expression and to make some of the best most awesome stuff for my favorite game that means a lot to me (which is Doom btw) and amaze everyone including myself.
The sooner I make all the maps I want to make the sooner I can retire from mapping lol. Until the next time where I feel like opening the editor again for whatever next idea I get.
To make a megawad, or not to make a megawad... that is the question.
Also as I said in that DW thread I wouldn't take mapping commissions ever unless it was for a million dollars. Pay mappers back in feedback and critique 8-)

I feel like privately contacting someone to commission a map or midi or whatever is just fine, the thought of it becoming a trend is kind of gross but I doubt that will ever happen what with all the free content out there. Some of the suggested price tags I've seen in that thread are absurd though tbh, I would feel fucking disgusting asking someone more than $50 for a decent sized Doom map made to some specification. Hell, even that much is overkill in my opinion unless we're talking about a Mechadon-tier map. I don't think the "well most jobs pay $15 an hour!!" argument holds much weight because this isn't a job, it's someone slipping you a couple bucks for you to do something fun. But hey, people can use their money however they like. You'll never see me charging anyone for anything Doom based nor will you see me paying anyone to make stuff for me but I'd never want to step in the way of people doing as they please with their money and time.

To clarify my position: you can pay somebody to do whatever the fuck you want them to do if they agree to it, or give money to people for whatever reason. That is beyond question. In regards to money for Doom content: if you can make it, take it, but know you go against the original “understanding” that you can make whatever you want to for Doom with the only requirement being that you own the game and don’t distribute commercial assets. It’s quite simple.

Are you mad lol? But I agree that the "helpful review" feature is lame. And in fact it's a shame that anonimous votes and reviews were disabled, thanks to the fucking spammer, now there are way less reviews done.

The whole concept of upvoting/downvoting and liking stuff is a pretty terrible thing in general. Do we really need to have the value of everyone's contributions to the discussion measured where everyone can see it?
Everyone's posts are valuable to me. It seems like it means just as little to like every post in a thread as it does to not like any posts at all. I see myself liking things I don't even necessarily "like" just as a courtesy to the poster.

I had a feeling it was Carlos downvoting other people's reviews at first, especially mine get downvoted almost instantly after I submit them. At least I am suspecting it's Carlos, as I know what he did on idgames pages in the past and this might be the only thing he can do at this point. Or maybe it really is someone else, possibly Grain of Salt or something. |

I admit that when that stupid feature appeared for few times I "trolled" with the yes/no on some reviews but that's it  , most probably some other users are doing the same but looking around it doesn't seem like a problem, at least I'm not seeing some mass downvotes everywhere. I don't think it's Carlos, if he manages to have the accounts to actually put downvotes he can just use them to spam reviews or threads. |

I'm posting this on behalf of the mappers who worked hard on both the past and present Doomer Boards projects and because I'm fucking tired of reading shit like this and thinking "wow fuck these people!".. I didn't want to see this on a night that was actually going to be one of the best nights of the year for me, but whatever.. Thankfully I have multiple friends in the discords who are seeing some of these people for the truly spineless, dishonest, weak, spiteful and vindictive cowards they really are.  inb4 before someone actually takes the loli at face value. |
