Has anyone played it? I'm wondering if I should pick it up.

I'd say the first one is worth playing. I think you'd probably like it. Not so much 2 or 3. I personally wouldn't spend $5 on it since I'm a cheap bastard. If you do get it be prepared to do some tweaking to get it running though. Pcgamingwiki will probably be helpful. There's also no hudscaling for higher resolutions making the font microscopic. I highly suggest either using a mod to scale that up or playing at a low resolution. I also recommend looking into dxvk which will let you use vulkan rendering. That's made for Linux using wine but works perfectly 100% fine with windows also. It's a janky game performance wise so that can help. Just have to drop the appropriate dll files into the game directory.

I have only played the first and both of its expansions, and I found the experience very enjoyable. The expansions are mostly more of the same game formula that was so successful in the original F.E.A.R. My review of the bundle: cloakedthargoid.wordpress.com/fear-platinum-review/My understanding is that the second and third games are quite different gameplay-wise. Some like the changes, some don't. I would buy from GOG before I buy from Steam. It's DRM-free and does not require to install any clients. The complete thing is currently a whooping $8 on GOG, but just the base game + expansions (a.k.a. F.E.A.R. Platinum) is $1. Can't beat that. www.gog.com/en/game/fear_platinum

Has anyone played it? I'm wondering if I should pick it up. You should definitely play the first game in the series. It was a big deal at the time of release and the gameplay and enemy AI was mind-blowing at the time.

I've been happy playing Quake for the last few decades and not much else.

FEAR 1 is 100% worth it. Extraction Point is fun too but it kind of ruins the game's plot and ending. I haven't played Perseus Mandate nor the sequels

I haven't played Perseus Mandate nor the sequels Yes, both the beginning and the ending of Extraction Point make little sense. Perseus Mandate is actually better in this regard, as its a parallel plot line. The combat is fun too, esp. towards the end.

Ok yeah this game is really fun. Much more tactical fighting but it's very intense! Well worth it, imo.
