Oh, how I miss them. I remember being a little kid and man do I have some fond memories. Toys in the 90s were actually cool. I remember creepy crawlers, nerf guns, jurassic park figurines, ninja turtle toys...fun stuff for a kid that I think aged well. Hell, even the commercials were awesome!
And the TV shows...man, oh man...I remember being like six or seven and watching COPS with my dad before he would go to work and thinking to myself, "Man, I bet dad does this same stuff at work!" even though we lived in a small town and his shifts usually were just writing tickets, busting potheads who smoked in public, or responding to suicides...but it was still cool for me. But back to COPS...heh, man, the show was so much cooler back then. Compare this clip to modern COPS. Yes, he drew his gun before seeing a threat. Guess what, he's in the fucking projects. Deal with it. 90s, fuck yeah!
And lastly...the metal. My God, the metal!!!
The 90s just had this something to it...this grimey grittiness that I haven't seen in the '00s or '10s...but damn, do I miss it. I would give up everything I have to relieve the 90s at the age I am now.

I had an interesting conversation with my wife the other day. Late 70's and early 80's stuff seems to be making a comeback with the resurfacing of synthwave music, retro games, and reboots of classic 80's movies. We happened to be rewatching Final Destination on HBO, which I haven't seen in a looooong time. I remember the premise of this movie being pretty captivating at the time, but watching it today, everything was so distinctly 90's looking that is was silly.
Final Destination isn't a particularly serious movie to begin with, but now that the 90's is a few decades behind us, it's a bit easier to solidify its cultural differences and compare it to how things have evolved today. This makes me hopeful that in maybe another decade from now, we might see some serious attempts to recapture that style again in a new and refreshing way. Maybe video games and movies will become more comic-book like with excessive violence and grossness. New grunge rock bands will become cool again. People will have frosted tips and cargo pants.

It's because they (meaning fashion industry, music, and Hollywood) are running out of ideas so they are recycling old ones.
