I never played cube. It looks cool but im afraid if i tried it today i would have trouble getting into it. The cube is similar to Doom, it is the same 2D data array, which has parameters for the height of the floor and ceiling. All sectors are cubic (on the floor plane square, a step up or down of the same size) and the sector size is 16x16. That is, in principle, it is possible to convert the geometry of the map for cube into a map for Doom. I asked Aardappel about this, he told me that he does not know anything about such converters, but said that it is fundamentally possible. However, he mentioned that it would be quite difficult to implement slopes. I made such a conversion using the png2wad graphic converter. This is not very convenient, because it only makes an approximate conversion, and then you have to painstakingly polish everything in the builder. On the other hand, for the cube, the level editor is in the engine itself. This is similar to the 3D mode in the builder. But in the flat plan mode, the editor does not exist. And this saddens me. In general, there are many points of contact in the engines and the cube has many good ideas that can be used in the idtech1 engines.

this makes me think with scaling by + and - powers of 2 a top down sillouette of the map can be retrieved fully.
