How do you know players don't get hooked after and don't anticipate what comes next, and doesn't prepare the player for the rest of the set when playing MAP01? We're talking about YOUR MAP01. I've also posted screenshots from DW and /vr/. I said it needs to be completely reworked or swapped with another map. Stop pretending you don't see the problem with it. It's hideous, not very fun to play and the gimmick's execution is laughable. I'm not asking anyone to remove it from the project, I just don't want to see low quality maps like this to be the first thing players see when they boot up a new DBP.

lol dude from kf didn't like the sail west and east idea. Okay the thing I didn't like were trip wires in place of invisible walls. The water could go deeper and that'd logically stop player from going to the sea further. Advice to fix RMG's map with 20% damaging sea is what I'd consider really bad "and 90s" thing to do actually. I liked his map for not having damaging floors at all3 EDIT: Thinking of my map: I was lazy to apply Biz's feedback to it and also I'm lazy now, but who knows

After having played this DBPs first Joe map and then testing the one from the upcoming project, I can say that Joe is unfit at every level. Is that all you do, make maps with one stupid unfun feature? Your next one is going to be running a marathon with the pistol, shooting at barrels near elevated high hp monsters, wasting the player's time in a copypasted plant, factory or whatever and after that you force the player to make a switch hunt while under fire from arachnotrons and a cyberdemon. Let's not even talk about the use of textures and lighting again, dear god.
Didn't those kiwifarmers also make maps that were much better than yours? How embarrassing...

Had to take a look myself. Not that I'd disagree entirely - didn't really enjoy joe-ilya's map either - but, to be fair, those KiwiFarms people's supposed "useful criticism" is mostly their usual zero IQ clusterfuck of vaguely reactionary jeremiading. They complain in the same sentence of everything and the opposite of everything. They called my dbp66 map "weird", which to me is a massive badge of honor. Thanks guys!

Yeah, then each time some tool like you reminds me why the scene still needs me On topic, I will agree on one thing with the Kiwifarms goons - some maps came in very, very late in the development cycle. Considering the two months deadline, I think it'd be only reasonable to consider it polite towards project leads and playtesters to submit at least a couple weeks in advance of the hard deadline. Thoughts 40oz (or any other DBP lead for that matter)?

I put the screencap into ChatGPT, and asked it your question, while reminding it of the limitations of the doom engine. Then I had it break it down into a simple paragraph: The textures are repetitive and lack variety, with no transitions or detailing to break up the monotony, which makes the scene feel flat. The lighting is uniformly applied, leading to a lack of depth and shadow definition, which is crucial for creating a sense of space even within Doom’s constraints. While Doom’s lighting options are limited, the use of light gradients and more deliberate placement of light sources could create better contrast and atmosphere. Joe you really need to shut the fuck up and take the criticism to heart for once. You've EARNED your reputation for being a complete cunt to work with and people have been fed up with your lazy bullshit for years. You don't get the cherry-pick the best looking room in your map and pretend that there aren't glaring, easily fixed, issues across your map. These first five images are all examples of misaligned textures in the FIRST ROOM of your map. Just like how people have been complaining about how making a first impression with a good Map01 is important for a wad, a good opening room is equally as important for a map. You need an interesting opening scene that allows players to immerse themselves in the world we're trying to create. Instead of an image that would spark inspiration and intrigue we have amateur 1-hour speedmap nonsense opening up the wad. It's obvious there wasn't any effort put into this. I saw this while I was looking for more misalignments. Why is this here? Here's an example of lazy lighting in the final room of the map. Why does the light cut off like that on the right? Why is the light from alter fires so much stronger but don't reach as far into the room? You realize there's a fucking function in Doombuilder that will automatically gradient the lights for you Joe? It's not a matter of difficulty, it's a matter of effort. I even recorded a video for you in the span of time it took me to write this post.Moving on to the rest of the map here are examples of more easily fixed misaligned textures. The thing is we know why these textures end up misaligned in your maps so often. It's because you simply shift+V your textures sloppily and never go through the effort to double or triple check the alignments. How do I know this? Because your walls with sky textures are caked in your wall textures. It's obvious there's a complete lack of care when you go through the texturing part of your maps. Here's another example of your lazy decision making. Instead of just redrawing the wall sector that you ended up pinching, you just left it. Do you take any pride in your work dude? This is the kind of shit that drives my autism into total overdrive. Do you see this and just not care to fix it? Are you pressed for time? Those aren't excuses by the way, I spent a total of about two weeks of this project's 8 actually mapping for this. I was too busy working a full time job, raising chickens, planning my child's birthday party, consoling my wife as her father ended up in the hospital with a heart attack, and putting my dog to sleep all while mapping for this and another project. Joe this is the thing that annoys me the most about your work and your inability to take any criticism to heart. You're fucking lazy and it's unacceptable for a person who's been doing this for as long as you have been to be making these kinds of mistakes. To not only make these mistakes but to release them and then act insulted when people call you out for your shitty work is frankly frustrating. I've only been mapping since late 2020 and I have been able to see the glaring flaws in your work for years. I won't say I'm perfect, but at least I put in the effort to get better. Grow the fuck up. Either get better or go away.

MISALIGNED SWITCH TEXTURE, oh my fucking God... I was 100% right when I asked if it was a joke map. Hell, it looks like something a total noob would make, like 'my second map' kinda crap... And you know what's even more funny? Even if he were to fix all the misalignments and other shit, the map would still look like trash. Compare it to any other map submitted for this DBP and the contrast between them will be like light and day - Joe's map is severely underdetailed, texturing is so bad even fixing misalignments and adding support textures won't fix it, gameplay is just boring run'n'gun with a shitty gimmick... It's just a bad map overall.
