I agree that we're going to see a crash in AAA gaming soon but I don't think this sort of thing has anything to do with it. We're seeing game development get more and more expensive every year, while also taking longer and longer to come out. Game studios are also burning through talent at mach speed, and in the end we end up getting so many of the boring, uninteresting games that have been coming out as of late. Developers get worn down, new devs are brought in, and at the end of the studios 5-7 year development cycle you end up with a product with no real personality or direction behind it (see Suicide Squad, Starfield, every Blizzard game, etc.). The whole industry seems super unsustainable at the moment, and I think we're going to see a lot of junior developers jumping off AAA game dev for better paying, more secure jobs in other tech fields Was easier to make a good game back when you could get a dozen max guys and gals w/ belief jacked on beer and speed and bang out a game encompassing the totality of their visions in six months to a year or two. Now every game takes so long to make the publishers want the game to last forever, to take so long to play to its end that by the time you've even finished the thing they've managed to create the next shit to shovel in your mouth. Pure coprophilia. An ouroboros eating its own cack. Sprinkle in hot-issue of the day to get a few articles churning about it about how it's 'so socially conscious and relevant!!'
And on that note about the ouroboros,,, the publishers need the game to appeal to the gehirnlos and sensitivity-player who would tear the game to shreds the instant they encounter something that doesn't adhere to their exact tepid sensibilities. Any negative impact might impact sales so the whole thing has to be like entering a fucking sensory deprivation tank, completely inoffensive to the senses, float around and make your own story (appealing to whatever letters you've bolted on yourself like you wear scarlet letters w pride (ha!)), maybe a bolt of acceptable bit of edginess to no real effect (cocks and tits in CP2077 character creator holy shit fuckt!!!) and so on.
There'll be a break eventually, people who want to achieve real things through the games-medium that aren't restricted to handholding and flashes of 'whats-acceptable-on-twitter-etc-today'. Some real ideas. There has to be a breaking point eventually, people won't be able to put up w/ it for ever.
W/ social media with everyone who's breathing down the publisher's ears with their own little soapbox, maybe in a perfect world all news is good news but social media is a hierarchy of people who want to inflict power in certain ways (journalism-groups etc.) they have an agenda to sell or they're not getting paid so they lean to what's tepid, in political favour, and uninteresting

It's just a symptom of esg. Want to get some financing for your game but your ideas would fail in a vacuum? Just hire one of these consulting firms to tell you how many genderfluid poc you need to inflate that funding. It incentivises easier financing to make lazier games. The kind of crap that would fail to even get off the ground in an untainted market. It's only one of a myriad of issues going on in the industry though. Microtransactions and games as a service crap will probably be even more damaging in the long run for an example. I've been telling people to avoid game dev if they want a stable career for quite a while since the crash is obviously coming.

If I was good, I'd be secretly hacking bewbs and dix into people's videogames (can't say the real words because the gaymer aligators will crawl out of their swamp and nom me; don't wanna mess with 'em). bewbs and dix into people's videogames (can't say the real words because the gaymer aligators will crawl out of their swamp and nom me; don't wanna mess with 'em). it's ironic to consider which side is more puritan... there's maybe a couple of "culture war" channels out there which aren't outright grifters, and one of them is into futa. maybe i could've chosen some sort of tradcath larping angle, pretending not to enjoy booba physics instead of merely avoiding wanking to t&a as far as the ruler of the material world allows. it's just funnier in a guilty pleasure sort of way, to see the ongoing battle between the asian coomer spirit and the unitarian universalist marxian heresy (because male gaze bad, or something) either way, i truly hope everything is forgiven considering how i modded dragon's dogma back in the day
