uh, Japan was (and still is afaik) infested with US military bases after WW2 to ensure that the demilitarization held: there was never any chance of communism taking off over there, the politicians and the not-so-divine Emperor had a literal gun to their heads.
Now, let's talk about the CIA grooming unsuspecting assets to assassinate targets of opportunity. Would be amazingly easy in a hari-kari kamikaze society I'd imagine.

I've seen some news about new Japanese communists, but their primary activity so far seems to be reporting anime as offensive (Yeah, good luck with that, in JAPAN). There's also new Japanese nazis. If they come to clash, I wouldn't consider it wise to bet on the communists.
