Volition, developers of great games like Descent, Red Faction 1, Red Faction 2 and Saints Row (Xbox 360) have been shut down by its parent company, Embracer group. The shut down is likely due to the latest installment of the Saints Row series which was an absolute trainwreck. Late into the video he gets to a part in the campaign that is functionally unplayable, as you are effectively a stationary turret but at some point while being chased by the monster truck, it can just run you over and kill you and there's nothing you can do about it. |

Descent is probably the only game I played more than id software's. Never heard of this Saints Row before but it looks very unappealing.

sucks that the mighty have fallen, but then again they stopped being mighty around the first red faction

Descent is probably the only game I played more than id software's. Red Faction 1 rox too. i'm still playing it from time to time, it is really fun (sans that idiotic stealth mission, of course). |

Damn, Descent was awesome. Back in the 90's a guy told me he was going to whoop me and he had experience with flight sims which I've never messed with, unless Top Gun for NES counts. I configured my controls to play like Duke Nukem 3D with jetpack and I whooped him.

I played Red Faction for first time in January 2021 iirc.
Red Faction
As cool as Far Cry is, but ammo needs rebalance. Like I feel I needed more rockets.
It was like a good but hefty book, and I wouldn't replay it.
Far Cry is less that clunky.
The game made me feel that any modern 3d shooter has to have almost fully destructible world.
Cuz yeah devs, if you don't have fully destructible geometry, you live in middle ages.
I doubt that new games would meet my expectations.
I think I should get past first level of Descent just cuz it's Descent, but I hadn't found it like interesting or appealing somewhere in 2016-18

The stealth mission sucks cuz it nullifies equipment and gives a pistol
The enemies felt at least not being vegetables, I dunno about were they smart or not. Never saw that again after RF

yeah, I finished mourning for the company that made Freespace 2 many, many years ago. I have no idea what this shambling, shit-eating abortion actually was, but it sure as fuck wasn't Volition.

btw, in RF 1 there is that canyon misson, where you put on timer, and there are a lot of enemies, and you have to reach the end of that canyon in time… which i thought as "almost impossible". it took me several days with excessive savescumming to beat.
of course, there was a nice fast car at the mission start, with a mounted machine gun, just around the corner. somehow i NEVER looked there, and used only my feets. but i still proud of it, because hey, I DID IT!
