Or did i just see one of my punk friends when i was 13 smirk when a new kid asked 'you guys ever listen to godsmack' and then i permanently thought i was better than anyone who ever said they liked godsmack for the rest of my life.
ive never even listened to them and i dont know any of their songs.
ive been thinking about making a list of bands i think probably suck just because of a received opinion i got when i was in school without ever listening to them so i can give them an honest chance to see if my opinion changes.

i did a search for godsmack the first song that comes up is called cryin' like a bitch which sounds kinda alpha male tryhard so we will see where this goes.
I guess ill start with their hits and go on from there. first song is called voodoo. seems fine. so far so good.

Any metal band with a "greatest hits" compilation should suck.

ok i stand alone opens with a motorcycle revving up. This is very pretend cool. oh i think i heard this track on the background of like WWE Smackdown or something. I think i just realized this is kinda like trailer trash angst music pre-nu-metal and its not for me. My first time doing some live posting my reacts to new music (new to me) and its already kablammo

pulling the plug on this operation; ive heard some of these before as like background noise on reality tv shows on mtv whenever they show someone who's ""extreme"" double air quotes. Its hard to listen to with any sincerity. I feel like im waiting in line for a monster truck rally or something.
Next im gonna try Lamb of God because i always get these two mixed up and i never listened to either of them. time to find out if my childhood friends steered me in the right direction with their elite gatekeeping.
the second song that comes up on YouTube is called walk with me in hell. gonna give this a go

Most of the other songs could fit in a FlatOut 1/2 mod easily

First lamb of god song i listened to is called walk in hell with me. ive heard this before, i think in a doom map midi. This is a pretty cool riff. not bad, much better than godsmack for sure.
now im watching a music video for a song called redneck. In the video a Christian family calls in Lamb of God from a phonebook to play at their little girls birthday party because they think they are a Christian music group or something, so lamb of god shows up all satanic like and trashes up the place. Its a little dorky imo. It seems kinda dorky but its fine.
Lamb of God seems fine not amazing nothing really remarkable they just sound heavy/death metal adjacent. Its very 'general' in my opinion. it feels kinda backwards to listen to them now after all the metal ive listened to before. It seems like they dont take themselves very seriously. Theres something that smells kinda 'corporate' about it that i cant quite put my finger on. Like they didnt rise from within the scene or something. Its very accessible metal for what i imagine would appeal to rebellious teens questioning their faith before eventually moving on to other notable bands.

Lamb of god was huge among my typical Slayer loving metal head friends back when they started getting attention. I remember enjoying a couple of their older songs when they were called burn the priest a lot more than their lamb of god stuff but it's all corny as hell to me now.

From what I've heard of Godsmack I just always thought they were freaking boring. Corporate-approved metal is so tiresome.

Dunno, only time I've been exposed to Godsmack has been with Metallica in... I don't even fucking know, it was the St. Anger tour so it must have been 2003 at the latest. I just remember them being very loud, screamy, and just sort of wanting them to be over with it so Metallica could come onstage.

Godsmack is uninspired slop, I agree. But what does this term mean? Is this a euphemism for poor people?

Yeah, that band sucks...
As do all of those nu-metal and Rap-rock bands do from the late-90s.

Godsmack is uninspired slop, I agree. But what does this term mean? Is this a euphemism for poor people? I can see how trailer trash could be into god smack. Often when I drive through upstate NY, and stop by some rest stop on the way, it is likely you will see: A meth-head looking scrawny trailer-trash-looking person that looks like they are stuck in the nu-metal 90s. Now that zoomers have hijacked wide-leg pants that gothic kids used to wear in the 90s, I'm sure these meth head looking trash must feel vindicated for holding on to that style.

And don't forget the big fat girlfriend wearing the slipknot shirt at his side.
I look down upon these people as I blast Possessed in my Lexus.

Godsmack is uninspired slop, I agree. But what does this term mean? Is this a euphemism for poor people? Trailer trash is a subset of poor and primarily white people that live in campers, RVs and modular housing in trailer parks. Usually in the southern united states. They're the target demographic for things like Monster Truck shows, Insane Clown Posse, The WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment,) and Wal-Mart. A lot of teens from trailer parks put on a kind of displaced hardened tough guy front but the veneer usually crumbles whenever they go anywhere outside of the trailer park, since trailer parks are often rife with poor personal hygiene and poor physical health with high sugar/oil fried diets, incest, sexually transmitted diseases, alcoholism, and crystal meth.

Is there a euphemism for poor blacks who suffer from all the same issues? Or would that be racism/hate speech?

Of course there is.
I don't expect it to, but if my usage of the phrase 'trailer trash' is in poor taste, and someone is offended by it, I'm willing to edit my post and apologize for denigrating them. I didn't write that with an objective to continually move the goal posts towards attacking people in groups I don't belong to.

I didn't write that with an objective to continually move the goal posts towards attacking people in groups I don't belong to. No need to edit. I understand that the term has been normalized. But what's important is that we learn and, moving forward, do and be better. Especially when it comes to marginalized groups to which we don't belong.

qwaz Well.. I'm white and have used the word trailer trash around plenty of white people before that didn't feel the need to correct me on my usage. The post also stood uncontested for over a year on this forum with many white people on it. For me, trailer trash comes from an understanding that white people are systemically favored compared to other races in the United States, and a comedic understanding that they are squandering against the privelege that is awarded to them. (e.g. trailer parks are very under-policed and usually not the focuse of conversations around the world being more dangerous despite having similar crimes that take place in them to black neighborhoods)
