Or did i just see one of my punk friends when i was 13 smirk when a new kid asked 'you guys ever listen to godsmack' and then i permanently thought i was better than anyone who ever said they liked godsmack for the rest of my life.
ive never even listened to them and i dont know any of their songs.
ive been thinking about making a list of bands i think probably suck just because of a received opinion i got when i was in school without ever listening to them so i can give them an honest chance to see if my opinion changes.

i did a search for godsmack the first song that comes up is called cryin' like a bitch which sounds kinda alpha male tryhard so we will see where this goes.
I guess ill start with their hits and go on from there. first song is called voodoo. seems fine. so far so good.

Any metal band with a "greatest hits" compilation should suck.

fuck the second song under your scars opens with piano and reverb vocals. Sounds like emotional country before it adopted those poppy instrumentals.

ok i stand alone opens with a motorcycle revving up. This is very pretend cool. oh i think i heard this track on the background of like WWE Smackdown or something. I think i just realized this is kinda like trailer trash angst music pre-nu-metal and its not for me. My first time doing some live posting my reacts to new music (new to me) and its already kablammo

pulling the plug on this operation; ive heard some of these before as like background noise on reality tv shows on mtv whenever they show someone who's ""extreme"" double air quotes. Its hard to listen to with any sincerity. I feel like im waiting in line for a monster truck rally or something.
Next im gonna try Lamb of God because i always get these two mixed up and i never listened to either of them. time to find out if my childhood friends steered me in the right direction with their elite gatekeeping.
the second song that comes up on YouTube is called walk with me in hell. gonna give this a go

Most of the other songs could fit in a FlatOut 1/2 mod easily

First lamb of god song i listened to is called walk in hell with me. ive heard this before, i think in a doom map midi. This is a pretty cool riff. not bad, much better than godsmack for sure.
now im watching a music video for a song called redneck. In the video a Christian family calls in Lamb of God from a phonebook to play at their little girls birthday party because they think they are a Christian music group or something, so lamb of god shows up all satanic like and trashes up the place. Its a little dorky imo. It seems kinda dorky but its fine.
Lamb of God seems fine not amazing nothing really remarkable they just sound heavy/death metal adjacent. Its very 'general' in my opinion. it feels kinda backwards to listen to them now after all the metal ive listened to before. It seems like they dont take themselves very seriously. Theres something that smells kinda 'corporate' about it that i cant quite put my finger on. Like they didnt rise from within the scene or something. Its very accessible metal for what i imagine would appeal to rebellious teens questioning their faith before eventually moving on to other notable bands.

Lamb of god was huge among my typical Slayer loving metal head friends back when they started getting attention. I remember enjoying a couple of their older songs when they were called burn the priest a lot more than their lamb of god stuff but it's all corny as hell to me now.

From what I've heard of Godsmack I just always thought they were freaking boring. Corporate-approved metal is so tiresome.
