Congrats to all the mappers and thanks to the playtesters. It's not a big deal, I was just curious. Incidentally, the MAP06 music track listed in the txt file doesn't seem accurate. Also there's no MAP18 music listed. I need to figure out where the hell the MAP18 midi came from. Theres no-name on it and no metadata either. Also the readme file says dbp39 at the top instead of 59.

In map04 you can fall out from window to inaccessible area
Cool mapset and theme BTW! i wish i could take part in it, but i was busy with studies, so couldn't participate. Maybe later i'll make an add-on levels for if i'll have time.

MAP05 has a shortcut to the end I missed. No idea if I should fix that since the bfg was supposed to be a reward for those who find it. (I rather pput a fencet there and an alternate way to unclock the bfg)

About the graphics lifted from The Excavation of Hob's Barrow, I'll take the blame for that. It was negligence on my part I think. The art for that game is so believably retro that I was actually tricked into believing it was from an a long forgotten point and click adventure from the 90s! I can explain how I got to using those sprites, not as an excuse... just thought I'd share the story. I'm happy to replace those sprites with originals and buy the game. Its on the front page of their website cadgames.weebly.com/I was originally looking up sprites from Monkey Island, and other point-and-click story adventure games of the period. From what I've read, many of those games are difficult to run on modern hardware and many of those are free now. I personally don't have a lot of experience playing those types of games -- i grew up on doom and other shooters, so I wouldn't be able to tell where the art is sourced just from looking at it. I had already put together a template for a 256 width texture which would contain 8 32px width sized slots with images of NPC's to be used in the wad. In parallel I was building out a tech demo for working NPC dialogue trees in the Doom engine, and needed graphics so it would make any sense to the mappers, visually. While looking for sprite sheets ripped from Indiana Jones and Beneath a Steel Sky to use, it would happen that an unlabeled WIP sprite sheet from Hob's Barrow came up in the search, and stylistically was 'close enough' to the time period emphasized in this steampunk project and were perfect dimensions. It had a lot of miscellaneous parts so i kinda quickly cut and pasted them together to use for the demo. I should have just made them on my own in the first place but I needed to show this to the mappers and didnt want the concept it to sit, unspoken, waiting on me to make the art. In context, these doom projects are primarily mapping projects that are pretty much developed on strict timelines of unpaid game industry style crunch. (We've made 60 of them in the span of 5 years!) So I've taken some shortcuts in the essence of time to support level designers in this pursuit. In development, no one mentioned recognizing these sprites from anywhere and so I didn't feel prodded to update them. This is likely because there probably isn't a lot of overlap between fans of point and click adventures and level designers for boomer shooters. Having interactable NPCs in a doom map was a new frontier for us. In development between the mappers we already started making maps with these characters in it and making up stories and quotes for them so it just kinda stuck. Personally, its not my proudest work in graphics editing, so I'm happy to make original replacements. As a creator, myself, I find it really weird for people to recklessly repurpose assets I've created and I know that frustration of seeing your work used without credit. I'm very sorry for that and won't make that mistake again! That's not an excuse for shamelessly ripping off someone's work (and livelihood) without credit and so I'll gladly buy the game and create original replacements.

40oz that sounds like a good solution to the conundrum. I would suggest to make somehow the Hob's Barrow developers aware of such intentions.

This is one of the best DBPs yet! Map6 is something else, what a great adventure so far. This will be in my summer wad rotation for years to come. Well done team!

Finally, time to play though the whole thing. Enjoy some demos + a few final thoughts on your maps
dsdademos w/ saves+loads on UV using dbp_59_full.wad (use latest dsdadoom version for playback)
MAP01: What can you say about this map. amazing stuff, a cl2 master class with great attention to detail. Some of the NPC dialogue is hilarious: This diving helmet fits perfectly! (literally twice the size of his entire body)... Its hot outside! (goes to tavern and sits next to roaring fire instead of just taking of coat)...lol.
A few nitpicks. The shimmer on the sea is a neat effect, except for the large squares near the dock where they are easy to notice when full dark. Probably barnacles on the ships rudder instead of mussels? (maybe idk). Raincoat guy might have made more sense if he was inside the house, but maybe it would have been to tricky to pull off some of the effects?
MAP02: Great map. Hot air balloon ride is a visual highlight. felt a snowy44 influence with all the barrels and perched imps. Ran out of shells near the end of the map, but i dig this shotgun replacement sfx. Comfy map overall. great secret with the dude in the wall.
MAP03: Love how densely packed this little city block is. The blue key cathedral looks great, might be a little too spacious for the combat here. Could maybe have thrown a couple more imps + a hk here. blue key switch archvile is a bit useless, wish some more low tiers had been set to ambush near the switch to give him something to do. Love the parkour for secrets in this map. Need more of that in the future. Despite not being a tall map there is good verticality to be found in here. what an opening trio

I've started playing the full version today and it seems like megaserk secret in MAP02 is broken. I can't find a way to reveal the switch to enter the secret closet. Upd: I think the midtex switch texture right in front of the steering wheel in snowy44's map in the red key looks cursed and I noticed that there's an issue with 'killable' NPCs in LunchLunch's map: the blood midtextures are bleeding into the floor. imgbox.com/g/JBt2vXYVRY

Just played through the whole thing.
-Small misalignment in LunchLunch's map (screenshot #13) -This switch changes texture when pressed (screenshots #20 and #21) -Ugly texturing error in Highclouds (screenshot #23) -You can go through this railing in matador's map (screenshot #26). This shouldn't be changed, it actually makes getting back up easier -Screenshots #27 and #28 show that a switch that should lower the pillars preventing the player from exiting the map has lowered itself. Idk why that happened -Screenshot #32 lololol -Screenshot #36 and #37 show a dialogue window that needs to be fixed That's all. I'll play the wad without pistol starting each map in the near future.
