I saw this video recommended to me recently. It's a 1v1 arcade game where you choose a hitman/hitwoman/hitanimal from some ridiculous character classes and you have to hunt each other down. The stages are very dynamic and have a lot of cool gimmicks and hazards in them. I've never seen this game before but I thought it was really cool

That's like a predecessor of smash brothers. Hmm,. never liked these kinds of games. But at least the pixel art looks sweet in this one.

I never liked the play of Smash Brothers much, but I thought it was cool when they added a 2D style (still 3D gfx) Mario adventure in I think the second game, whatever system it was on. This Outfoxies game looks freaking cool. But I've played older great predecessors that deserve credit. 4-player Nekketsu Fighting Legend / Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu from 1992, or an old Famicom/NES translation hack just names it Riki Kunio after the two main characters and renames everyone else. Back in the early 2000's I was playing it 4-player emulated on my Dreamcast with friends. It's now available in some big Retro Brawler Bundle for Nintendo Switch. I highly recommend these games. One of the more but not its most platformy stage shown at 9:20. Here's the most platformy stage at 35:18 of this video. For years there's been a PC remake of NKD, however expanded to 8 player with probably more characters, and people hacked or edited a bunch more variations of it. Youtube search results: www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Nekketsu+Kakutou+Densetsu+for+PCWorld Edition looks awesome! Although, I can see it has the Americanized names from official games and some made up ones, except for Kunio and Riki being the original Japanese. Another 4-player Nekketsu game is Downtown Nekketsu Soreyuke Daiundoukai. The title literally translates to something weird but it's commonly called Nekketsu Cross Country. There's a cell-shaded 3D version for Nintendo DS called River City Super Sports Challenge. But there's the best version available at least on PC steam also called River City Super Sports Challenge, with classic 2D style graphics but newer and expanded with more characters and more moves. The game is made up of four events: The cross country race, indoor obstacle course which is more platformy and reminds me of Double Dragon 2's Mansion of Terror stage, some ball breaking stage where you climb up and want to be the one to break it while others try to knock you off so they can do so, and then just the free-for-all rumble. You can beat the crap out of each other in any event. That 3D game for DS had some treasure chest opening event. Then on Steam came two more releases just focusing on the rumble and expanding that, called River City Melee Battle Royale Special SP and then River City Melee Mach!! Here's the obstacle course, but in apparently some modified PC version: I actually have the PC-Engine Duo CD (Turbo Grafx 16 CD) of Cross Country but I just ran in an emulator as I never had the system myself. The steam version is newer and improved anyway, but this one had the graphics made to look somewhat more 16-bit with a good CD audio soundtrack. Here's a newer but 8-bit NES game more reminiscent of Outfoxies though not as crazy. Rom for sale (only $2 plus any extra you want to give): sgadrat.itch.io/super-tilt-broKickstarter for cartridge which includes a bit in wifi connector for internet play:

Played this one some years back. It's entertaining visually, which is why I played it but I remember the gameplay being pretty simplistic and meh for the most part. Fairly certain I didn't spend more than maybe five minutes on it though.
