In a tweet by Scott Miller of Apogee, he shared some images Adrian Carmack posted, including some hand drawn images of textures that would later become BROWN1, PIPE2, and the star textures in Doom.

So much cut content and development material that they only cocktease with over tweets. ZeniMax told Romero to stop when he did it, wonder if they’ll interfere here if more is shown.

This actually explains a lot about doom's fucking bonkers palette selection.
It's not "what colours are actually useful", it's "what fucking crayons are in Adrian's box".

Yep, now we know why. I could never get 'spot on' when I attempted to mimic the style digitally. Something was always off.
It's pretty cool to see these and I hope he shares more.

Ive always had trouble mimicking the style digitally too! BROWN1 is one of my favorite textures in the game. Theres something uniquely 'real' about it. Ive also never been able to reproduce anything quite as pipewally as the pipewall too. I either make too many pipes that its too visually noisy to use, or theres too much background wall showing through.

Hi and thanks. Yep, back in 2014-2015 he was showing off unused assets from Doom’s development. It eventually lead to a lot of stuff being shared online such as the unused frames for the undead troops among other things. Apparently there was more to come but ZeniMax’s legal intervened and Romero was told to no longer do it. From a legal standpoint ZeniMax does have that right, sure, but it’s absolutely stupid. Nobody outside of modders and people truly interested in the development of their favorite game would find any value in this stuff to begin with. Keeping it locked up is ridiculous.
