Apogee's facebook page shared these screenshots of shadow warrior in early development. The game looks like it went through some pretty significant changes.

These were the preview shots taken from the May 1994 build. The second pic reminds me of Space Harrier. For show, this guy recreated the places shown in the pics. The September 1995 build looked more "serious" compared the finished game which I would have preferred. The atmosphere is similar to the Sega Saturn game, Shinobi X which was made in the same year.

The first known SW prototype is dated 9.9.1993 which was before Duke Nukem II and Doom were released. This one seems to run on modified Ken's Labyrinth engine or an early version of Build.
If you want to poke them around, you can install all of the available prototypes from Steam's Shadow Warrior Classic page.

I remember seeing these screenshots on TCRF wiki long time ago, also iirc Shadow Warrior Classic on Steam actually contains a prototype version that similar to the ones on these screenshots. SW's development is more complicated than DUKE3D or Blood.
