Title gave me the impression of the Matrix while machines use us as batteries, except our virtual world is that of Mario.

We've been pretty close for a while now. Oblige level generation is pretty outstanding. AutoDoom started like 6 or 7 years ago, but I think it's been tabled for now. From what I've read it has trouble recognizing any kind of platform jumping and doesn't know how to wait for lifts. Though I'm not suggesting that the code that created these things independently are compatible with each other.
To this day I still have my doubts that AI will ever be able to replace human level designers. AI is capable of creating some pretty cool visuals but designers communicate to their players through their level designs and I find most of the stuff AI puts out to be rather empty and meaningless. It's cool for a minute or two but the feeling of 'pointlessness' comes up a lot whenever I'm playing something not created by a person.
