Have you ever had a game that corrupted your saved progress due to a mandatory update or some other glitch? So you've been regularly saving your incremental process and because of some problem that's no fault of your own, your saved progress is gone forever? How fucking frustrating is that?
What game did it happen to you on? How mad were you? How did you cope with it? What did you lose? What level were you on and where are you now? How much time did you spend grinding on the game?

Fallout: New Vegas because well, it's Fallout: New Vegas. Also it happened with Fallout 3 even though I was playing it on Xbox 360. Thankfully not all saves got corrupted. I also remember this happening with some other games I used to play but I don't remember which ones and they got corrupted because I was using mods and regularly switched them so naturally all of the saves I made before installing those mods couldn't be used anymore.
Blorgh.
Also unrelated, but imo Deus Ex: Invisible War is trash and Human Revolution is extremely overrated. OG Deus Ex for the win!!! But... GMDX is even better than OG Deus Ex though.

"Soul Calibur 3" memory card corruption bug. The god-tier story mode "Tales From The Sword" (I think that's what it was called) could corrupt not just your SC3 saves, but I believe could corrupt saves from other games as well.
That shit happened to me CONSTANTLY.

In April, (i think) there was an update for Doom Eternal that corrupted almost everyone's saves.
My partner lost weeks of progress in Dreamlight Valley recently to a surprise 'corrupt data' bug. She had been grinding all weekend to get her stats and money up to where it was where she left off and just this evening it happened AGAIN. She got in contact with customer support and they helped her recover her data up to where she got last night but she still spent 7 hours today doing boring farming shit just to grind back up. Those 7 hours are gone forever. All for naught. It inspired me to make this thread. This shit is criminal. Video game companies owe players something when they demand these huge time investments into the game only to chew it up and spit it out from some obscure bug.

You're trying to say you like DOS better than me, right?

I encountered corrupted saves in Fallout and Stalker SoC.
^I avoid playing games which rely on XP grinding and those ones where I can't just make some edits to saves or exploit some bugs to get to the level of progression I want.
I don't like games which want me to spend time with it grinding something.
I believe that good player is a skilled player, and not the one who just spends more time to get some ingame stuff.
Btw my stalker soc saves (except when OGSM 2.3.1 installed) would always corrupt after the x16 brain shutdown, sometimes it corrupted even cuz of simple visit to yantar. But the game still remained finishable though not that enjoyable.
Fallout seemingly always corrupts in mariposa and cathedral, and it's bound to player actions there. I don't remember which, but corruption also always can be avoided if you would play the game the expectedly intended way

Daggerfall in DOS. There are 6 saves, I might have been also savespamming. Eventually the latest save would crash every time. But even if I kept and loaded a much older save, later I got the same issue again. It's like there is a memory leak somewhere that keeps spreading, already corrupted from previous saves. Maybe it was the game just being buggy.

Have you ever had a game that corrupted your saved progress due to a mandatory update or some other glitch? Not due to an update or a game bug that I recall, but I remember messing up my own saved games in a couple of games (Rayman 2 back in the day, most recently FEAR) by trying to do stupid things with them (I thought I was backing them up, but failed to back up all the dependencies too). And recently I think my Bejeweled 3 profile got hosed because the PC froze mid-game. I was able to restore the Bejeweled 3 profile from a Windows shadow copy (Win7), I fixed up my FEAR saves by understanding how Save1001.ini works, but with Rayman 2 I was at a loss (this was over 20 years ago), and simply replayed the entire game. Fortunately, it's not a hard one.
