I always kill everything in the room first and then find it after everything is dead. Then I get all butthurt later because I never have enough nails. Quad damage is sometimes a replacement for ammo pickups, which I understand but it can be frustrating for first time plays. I played the Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity quake mission packs for the first time recently on my partner's PS4. Playstation controllers are not ideal for quake, honestly, but I managed to get through both on hard skill with practice. Dissolution of Eternity is better (Lava nails are awesome, and the level designs are better) Scourge of Armagon is cool too but it's a little zany with the new weapons and monsters. I thought first, before playing through these packs that quad damage would be a cool powerup to add to Doom but I would expect ammo balance issues.

Totally understand you, 40oz. Kinda like finding the secret BFG after killing everyone in the level. Of course, with a BFG at least you get to take it into the next one (unless you are into pistol starts). I haven't played the expansions of Quake yet. I was doing a playthrough of the base game and kinda lost interest in the middle. Maybe will get back to it one day. In Doom (2016), the quad damage is typically visible before combat starts and is a sure sign that you are going to face overwhelming forces. It is often best not to take it until the middle of the battle, but of course it may be hard to assess the proper timing correctly (unless you've played out that fight before).
