I was wondering if you guys might be interested in a forum redesign. I haven't done this kind of stuff before, but I made some things in pretty large resolution so that you could resize it to fit. Something that's currently driving me crazy are all the doom sprites as icons. It pumps up the size of each cell for the threads, creating a lot of unused space. I think I can scale many of the little doom sprite icons and add some cel-shading to make them look better, but I'll probably get to it later. What do you guys think about this? Doomer Boards BannerI'm not sure if I'm in love with the font yet. I haven't found something I like yet. I might try a couple things later. BackgroundI think this looks pretty good. Dark and reserved. I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing yet, are there any max resolutions or file size restraints? Also there's so many little graphics on this forum that I'm not even sure what many of them mean. Am I able to look at the forum with no graphics so I can see what goes where? |

I'd really like to see this place get a facelift and dragged kicking and screaming into the year 1999.
Prefer minimalism myself, but anything is better than bloodfalls imho.

I'd even lose the uppercase D tbh with you.
Doom. Boards. Cyberdemon in the darkness behind it. Think that pretty much encapsulates the theme I'd go for.

anything is better than bloodfalls imho. Uh, you do know that you can change themes, right? The dark-green one with the slimefall looks much better. |

You now have the power to create multiple themes for the website, and can set any of them to be the default theme.

I'm digging the new cosmetics. Keep up the good work! The black background is much better than the bloodfalls. Should the DoomerBoards logo be solid white instead of the Doom2 background?

there is something undeniably cute about that little dude impaled on a stick. Also, if you are looking for doom sprites on that scale to work with / use as inspiration, may I recommend the tileset from DooM: The Roguelike?  Actually, more people should play DRL regardless, because it's fucking awesome. |

I'm really digging this new resign so far! It looks fresh and it doesn't have that late 90's "my first website" look to it anymore.  Just wondering why when logged in, it defaults back to the old look? |

Thanks everyone for your comments, it's much appreciated. I'm liking the new look too. Does anyone have any suggestions for things they'd like to see changed? Or things they preferred from the old design or whatever?
I was given full creative control so I just did whatever I felt looked right, but I did it without waiting for much commentary.
manilo, you mentioned that the doomer.boards logo should be white instead of yellow?
dn, you think the logo could look cleaner without the DOOM 'D'?

It's too huge on it's own, it unbalances the image.
Two ways to fix it; Balance it with the B in boards, make that fukhueg as well and add a degree of symmetry to the image.
Or add weight to the bottom of the logo with a tagline of some description. "Doomer Boards: Vaginal Dilation for the Soul" or something. Bonus points for rotating between taglines.
Guess a third way would be to go totally crypto-wanker and just remove 'oomer Boards' and use the D alone with a vague hint of cyberdemon in its current place in the background.

The second one sounds the best, but rotating taglines (I assume you mean the way old doomworld would change the monster picture in the corner with every page refresh) is the only thing out of the three I'm not sure how to do.
I've never designed a website before -- there's some html fields so I can customize the formatting of the site if I do some research, but at the moment I only know how to do the stuff that that the UI lets me change, like colors and images and stuff. I almost got really carried away and made new themes for every megawad (Alien Vendetta, Requiem, Scythe 2, STRAIN, Ancient Aliens, etc.) with colors and graphics from each of the sets, but that's obviously not necessary.
I'd like to do a couple things like make the quote/edit/like buttons a little smaller, make the member cells and avatars smaller, but names bigger and bold, but I havent figured it out yet. Also I don't know if you guys like giant avatars, or how comfortable you guys are with too much change. I really like the old Doomworld forum format so anything that's more like that with our own flare to it would be cool.

Questions: 1. Does anybody use the Wolf3D/Doom/Heretic/Hexen/Duke3D/Quake flash plugins above? It's a cool feature but it takes up a lot of space and makes the button bar on the top look kinda messy. I think I could straighten it out to remove the redundant links. 2. I can set up forum ranks for certain numbers of posts like doomworld has: Registered just to make one post

So what is not considered a "shitty thread" to you? Because last time I checked you were a frequent member of Booty Ass Fields. Is that the kind of forum you'd like to see? You sympathize with the mentality of a typical shitposting millennial and I'm sick of seeing your kind label other conversations as "cancerous". You rarely ever contributed anything to those closed threads, yet were quick to pick sides and "like" opinions you agreed with. Now that those threads are gone, you're cheering and saying they were shitty? A lot of people put forth hours worth of interesting ideas there. Heaven forbid they want to discuss a topic you don't entirely agree with? |
